Gabe stops the engine of the motorcycle, but I still clutch him tightly. He laughs lightly and untangles my hands from his abdomen.
"No need to be afraid, okay? These guys are cool." Gabe whispers to me as he strides off to one of the guys confidently, easily starting a conversation.
I remain on the bike, like stone, and while some of the guys have began to talk, the majority are just staring at me. I inhale and exhale, just like I do in choir before a big performance.
I may not have confidence in this particular situation, but I could always fake it. I mean, fake it till you make it, right?
Mustering every grain of confidence and strength I can, I hop off the motorcycle. Even the guy that Gabe was talking to now has his eyes steadied on me.
I glare at every guy who meets my gaze.
"Do you guys need something?" I yell at the guys.
Almost everyone looks away. Perhaps they're embarrassed, maybe they're just trying to be polite.
I turn to Gabe and see that he has a grin on his face. I shrug doing my best to pretend indifference.
I go over to a tree and lean on it, arms folded over my chest. I'm watching everyone closely, not wanting to be caught off guard.
I get bored and begin to grow flowers, although the flowers are all a deep red color. Suddenly, I hear a deep chuckle that does not belong to Gabe. No, this chuckle is like a deep velvet, if that makes sense. It probably doesn't, but I don't know how else to describe it.
I tilt my head to see who the chuckle belongs to. I see a guy, male model worthy, standing next to the tree. Not to close, but close enough to where I could hear his breath.
He has dark red hair, green eyes that have a flicker of gold, and freckles that dust his face.
"I'm not a library book, but you can check me out all you'd like." The guy has a deep voice, and it's smooth, arrogant, use to getting what he wants.
"What is there to check out?" I scoff, not wanting him to know that I actually was checking him out.
"Oh, nothing much I guess. I may have an awesome bod, but you know it's my personality that all the chicks dig." I roll my eyes, what's with this guy?
"Yeah, that's obvious. What's not to love? You're obnoxious, arrogant, and crude." I say, agitated. I don't know why, but this guy sort of gets under my skin.
The guy laughs and it sends my hair on end.
"I'm Caleb. And you are?" Caleb asks politely. Too bad he already showed his true self.
"Not interested." I say mildly, without the bite that I had intended to come out in my voice.
An arm snakes around my waist and I narrow my eyes.
The owner of the arm is none other than Gabe Welsh. I glare at him and remove myself from his grasp. Caleb is still looking smugly at me and I sigh.
Today, I've been glaring more than I have in the past week. Also, I've gone from dreaming about my crush and drooling into my pillow to ditching with a royal. Talk about polar opposites, am I right?
Gabe pulls me away from Caleb and out of my thoughts, back to the motorcycle.
"Remember, anytime!" Caleb calls as I'm towed away.
I yank my arm free, not needing to be dragged.
"So what were we doing here?" I asked, annoyed that Gabe had just been walking me like a dog.
"Well, they're my security detail, so I can't just disappear on them. And I gave them the day off." Gabe said nonchalantly, like having at least a dozen guards is something normal.
"Thank gosh. Here I was thinking you were in some kind of biker gang." I say honestly, feeling a little stupid.
Gabe bursts into laughter, and is shaking for breath.
"Wow, me? In a gang?" Gabe keeps laughing and I get on the bike, impatiently waiting for Gabe to regain control of himself.
Finally, he does. He positions himself on the motorcycle and once again we're speeding off.
I close my eyes and feel the wind on my face. This time, my eyes aren't closed because of fear, though. I'm actually happy and perfectly calm on the motorcycle.
We come to a stop all to soon and I open my eyes again. This time, there's no guys in black. In fact, there's not a person in sight.
We're in front of a big gate that has a sign reading "No Trespassing". I look at Gabe, unimpressed.
"So we're going to trespass onto someone's land? That's boring, even for you." I dig, but not meanly.
"Just for that, I'm not going to open the gate. Instead, we're going to have to get in the old way."
I stare at him, feeling stupid. Of course his family owns the property. After all, why would he have to trespass when he could have anything in the world he wanted?
I smirk. He thinks that this will be a challenge for me? I take a breath and focus intently.
Soon, a branch from a tree comes over the fence and I easily climb onto it and over the fence.
When I land safely on my feet I concentrate on the tree again, making it regular size again. I patiently look at the fence, waiting for Gabe to attempt to go over it.
I hear a faint growl on the other side of the fence and I see a huge cougar jump over the fence. Soon, Gabe is back in human form but I stand there disappointedly. I was kinda hoping that he would flop over the fence.
Gabe laughs as he sees my face.
"Nymph, have you even looked at where you are?"
I look around me and my mouth opens in shock at what I see.
