I limply wipe the metallic tasting blood from my mouth and nose grimace as my face is hit once again. I see a flash of white teeth through my drooping eyes as I struggle to remain conscious.

Less Than Twenty four hours earlier

I switch the channel on TV as it goes to some kind of werewolf sap story. Normally I would be all about that type of stuff, but right now my chocolate moose tracks ice cream is the only love I'm interested in.

I glance at the clock and roll my eyes when I see that school ended about half an hour ago, leaving me ten minutes until I have to get Elena. Dragging my body from the couch I wearily pat my hair down and throw on yoga pants along with an oversized t-shirt.

Ever since the whole mate claim thing I've been skipping school all together. There's no way that I'm walking down those halls with everyone's eyes on me, hearing their whispers. Of how I'm a whore, gold digger, and god knows what else. That's assuming that anyone even knows, of course. I've been debating that option. I mean, it would hurt both twins to tell everyone that I'm their mate. Ryan has a girlfriend, and Gabe is the notorious bad boy that's supposed to be wild and untamed.

But even if they don't tell anybody the word would somehow be spread. Nothing remains secret in high school. Especially if you're a popular, or in this case, royalty. As I go to grab the keys off the little table by the door the answering machine that belonged to my mother beeps, the indication that there's a new message.

I falter, checking my phone for the time. Elena should be out in like four minutes. But then again Elena will survive, and who knows if the message is important or not. I set down the keys quickly and listen to the message.

"Hi, this is Mr. Rae, principle of the school that your daughter Serena attends. Lately, I've been a little bit worried about Serena. Lately, she has been missing classes with no form of communication with us as to why. When convenient please call me back. Have a wonderful day."

I laugh bitterly. Really? My mom isn't around to listen to the message and even if she were around it's not like she'd care. All she'd care about is getting her hands on vodka, tequila, pretty much anything that contained alcohol.

Shaking my head I angrily shut the door behind me. That is, until I realize that I don't even have my keys to lock the door or start the car. Frustrated, I go back into the house and snatch the keys up, remembering to lock the door this time.

Getting in the car I start the engine and when I reverse into the road I go way over the speed limit, hoping that Elena hasn't done anything rash yet.

Pulling up in front of the elementary school I stop abruptly, putting my foot solidly on the brake. I suppose I could've slowed down before I got to the school, but nah. That's not my style.

I stop the engine, placing the keys in my lap. My eyes search for Elena and eventually I spot her in the midst of a bunch of little kids. I wonder who they're all standing around, squealing. Probably some teacher that gave them candy or something. I step out of the car and lock the doors, knowing that with Elena being Elena this may take awhile.
