My sister needs a small surgery the doctors told me because of the way she fell on her arm so I gave them permission, signing all the forms.
"Is it going to hurt?" Elena asks me with wide eyes as I sit beside her bed, holding her hand, as they prep her for surgery.
"No. You won't feel a thing, you'll be asleep." I reassure her and she looks up at me with tears in her eyes.
"What's wrong?" Is she in pain? Does she need a nurse?
"Someone pushed me." Elena whispers to me and my eyes widen, tightening my hold on her hand.
"Who?" I ask her and she whimpers, looking at her hand and that's when I realize I'm crushing her small hand in mine.
"I don't know, I didn't see their face, but it was a boy. A old boy." Elena tells me and I begin to panic, questions building in my head with no answers. Why would anyone want to hurt my sister? How many of them are there? Who could actually hurt a little girl? How come no one was looking after her?
"I'll be right back, okay? You get some rest." I tell Elena and I look at the two guards outside.
"Go in the room, I think there's someone after her." I tell them and they nod, saying something to the person in their ear piece.
I text Ryan and Gabe since they're in the waiting room because only family was allowed to see Elena.
"Is she alright?" Ryan comes jogging into sight and I could smile at his sweet reaction if the situation was different.
"She's fine. Where the hell is Gabe?" I demand and Ryan looks away from me and at the ground.
"I'm not sure." Ryan says smoothly but since he looked away I know he's lying.
"Tell me the truth." Ryan looks up at me and I can see he feels awkward telling me this, but at the same time he feels... joy?
"He snuck off with some nurse a little while ago." Ryan says and I ignore the little jab I feel in my gut because now isn't the time.
"Well find him and get his ass down here pronto. What happened to Elena wasn't an accident." I force out the words and Ryan's face goes slack with shock. Soon he goes deep into thought and I sigh impatiently.
"Stop thinking and help me find Gabe!" My harsh tone snaps him out of his trance and he nods going left while I go right. Going down my third hallway I pass a janitors closet and hear some noises.
"Oh good god." I open the door and sure enough there's Gabe with some bimbo.
"Ermygod can I help you?" The girl says snottily and I roll my eyes.
"Gabe, I need to talk to you now." I say and Gabe looks at me, with his shirt unbuttoned, pants off and all before saying,
"It'll have to wait." He then pulls the girl back in and they start to kiss loudly.
So I did what I had to do. I pulled that whore straight up by her weave and threw her out of the closet.
"You just interrupted something important." Gabe glares at me and I slap him across the face.
"My sister is in trouble and all you can think about is hooking up with some nurse?" I shriek at him and his face was a mirror image of Ryan's from before, shock written all over it before it turned to guilt.
"Sorry." He mutters, quickly getting dressed and my phone starts to ring.
"It's okay, I found him Ryan." I tell him over the phone but on the other end there's just silence.
"Hello?" Ryan clears his throat before saying quietly,
"Elena's gone." I guess I didn't hear him right so I ask him to repeat but he just says the same thing.
"What do you mean she's gone?" I scream and Gabe comes closer so I put the phone on speaker, my hands shaking. He tries to put his arm around me in comfort but I grow angrier at his touch and step out of his reach.
"Someone took her. She's been kidnapped." Ryan's voice floats in the room and I sink to my knees, all strength leaving me and my phone clutters to the ground.
"I failed her." I whisper, curling into myself and Gabe rushes to my side picking up my phone and saying something to Ryan but I don't care.
All I know is that my only family is out there and it's all my fault. I left her there, when I should have stayed. I need to get her back, I need to save her. That thought alone was the only thing that made me get up from the floor that was covered with cleaning supplies and mop buckets.
"Where are you going?" Gabe calls behind me as I push open the janitors closet door and storm determinedly out of the hospital.
"To do what you people can't seem to be able to: save my sister."
