The sun was shining brightly as I fluttered my eyes open. I realized that I fell asleep on the sandhill that Stephen had taken me to before.
Stephen.
His name brought back all the memories from yesterday, or should I say nightmares. I remember worrying about Rob's safety; the fact of leaving him with Stephen alone scared me. The fact that what Stephen had become scared me!
Here I was just thinking about how much he affected me. How principled he was...how perfect he was. But what happened yesterday ruined everything. It was like a wall had just been demolished. My wall of trust. Our wall of trust had broken, because of him.
A single tear dropped down my face. I wiped it away immediately in annoyance. I was done with crying, and I was done with everything else that had been happening to me. I was trying to act like some wonder woman when I'm only just a girl. I had a perfect life, with a perfect family, with a perfect career to be. And now I don't even know if I can bring it back.
All of a sudden there was a huge boom behind me. I whipped my head around to see that it had ruined our campsite. Almost half a dozen of our tents had been destroyed, and there were men running around everywhere.
I got up very slowly and started to jog towards the campsite. Or what was left of it. As soon as I reached towards the bottom of the sandhill I was pushed towards the ground by some imaginary force. My ears started to ring, and my vision was blurred. My chest was on fire each time I tried to breathe. I couldn't hear anything even though my vision was starting to clear up.
"Hazel!" somebody screamed.
I was on my knees now, gripping onto my head. Somebody grabbed my arms and pushed me up. I wasn't able to hold myself up so that somebody was practically taking all of my weight single-handedly.
"Hey, look at me Hazel" said a very familiar voice.
My vision started to blur again and the image in front of me was no less than just a colourful blob. My ears were still ringing but were able to catch some other sounds as well now.
By now I had been able to comprehend that the voice belonged to a man, which also made sense since their grip was so strong as well.
I moaned in response, as speaking seemed out of the question.
"Hazel, please. I just need you to look at me".
So I did. Big mistake! My vision was on and off, but at that particular time, it worked.
The flashbacks from yesterday came running back to me. Almost as if a reflex I tried to push back from him.
"Hazel stop! Look I'm sorry, okay, but right now we have to leave" Stephen said as if he almost cared.
"Let. Go. Of. Me" I mumbled.
I was crying now. Full out. I wasn't able to stop the tears, and I let them fall because they reminded me of how screwed up my life was. I was just a bundle of problems, that's what I was.
I thrashed around with Stephen, with him constantly telling me to calm down. But why wasn't he able to understand that I couldn't! I couldn't calm down after what happened. I was hurt both mentally and physically. I wasn't able to wrap my head around the...new Stephen. Heck, I couldn't wrap my head around what was happening now!
"Hazel!" he said in a louder and firmer tone.
I stopped momentarily as he forced me to look at him, by pushing my chin in his direction.
