The lost trident

Chapter Fourteen

“What a pleasure?” Kanner said when Squitty brought in Helen and Kiara. “It’s been a long time Helen”, Kanner said. “I see the human world has fed you well”, he continued. “And I see the Shark world has fed you well too”, she retorted. “I hope you took care of my daughter”, he continued. “Daughter”, Kiara and Helen said in unison. “Yes, my daughter, Kiara”, he said. “Excuse me but my dad is dead”. “Oh! Is he?” Kanner asked in mock sympathy.

“You see your mother was too ashamed to tell her daughter that her father was banished. And that’s why I’m coming back-  for you”, Kanner said in a voice filled with emotion. “So all this was for Kiara”, Poseidon asked in annoyance. “I said we were taking the things the kingdom took from us”, Kanner replied in a stern voice. “Kiara join me and let us rule the kingdom together”, Kanner said. “But you told me you were helping me to take the throne from my father”, Poseidon said in rage. Kanner laughed. “You think I would let you rule. I am the one who tried to kill the king for his throne before you were born and now you think you can get it just like that” Kanner said. “I used you boy”, Kanner said mockingly. “To get the trident back”, Kanner said in a mocking tone. “You were so blind with anger that you couldn’t see. Life is not all about teenage fun and fantasies. Life is all about power”, he continued.

Poseidon in rage went to take the trident from where it was to use it against Kanner. “Looking for this?” Kanner asked holding the trident. Poseidon swam forward to get it from him but Kanner had created a ball of lightening from the trident and sent it towards Poseidon. Poseidon whirled backward. “Sharks”, Kanner called with authority. “Father please”, Kiara pleaded. He looked at her then said, “I’m sorry child, Attack!!” The sharks swam at full speed. Kanner hopped on one, his tail lying flat on the back of the shark, his left hand holding the trident and the reins with which he used to control his shark’s movement

Bianca had been swimming but she didn’t see any sign of life. It was getting darker and darker and she was getting scared. Then it occurred to her that she was not holding her breath. She took a deep breath of water and it felt as though she was breathing in normal air. She had some of the genes of mother. She couldn't believe it. She could actually breathe underwater. Hallelujah.

She kept swimming till she came to a lighter area, then she saw the sunken ship. She went through the stern of the ship and then she saw a figure tied with a rope. She surprised to find such rope underwater. Thinking it was Kiara, she swam quickly to where the figure laid limply against the wall. The figure began to shake in a frantic way while making muffled sounds as her mouth was stuffed. There were rotten fishes on the floor and shark bones everywhere. The stench from dead fishes and sharks was unbearable. Bianca swam to the figure and found out it wasn’t Kiara. Bianca removed the stuff from her mouth and found an iron she could use to cut the rope.

“Thank you”, the mermaid said faintly. “We have to hurry to the kingdom and warn them of Kanner and Poseidon’s shark attack”, the mermaid said. “But I don’t know the route to the kingdom”, Bianca said. It was then the mermaid noticed that Bianca had no tail. She gasped. “You, you have no tail”, she said in shock. “I know right?”  Bianca responded. “Listen”, Bianca said in a bid to calm her down. “I'm with Kiara”, Bianca said. “Wait you know Kiara”, she asked. “Yea”, Bianca replied. “I'm Nara”, the mermaid said. “No time for intros let’s get your tail to the kingdom”, Bianca said.

This chapter was getting long so I had to cut it here. Anyway, do you think Bianca and Nara can warn the merpeople of the impending doom?
