Chapter Ten
The week passed by so quickly. Nothing much happened. On Monday, Lance confirmed Helen’s suspicion when he got to his office. There was a pool in a room behind the CEO’S office of Kanner’s fish factory. One of the janitors and a friend of Lance had revealed it to him. He was cleaning the office one day when he saw a glow coming from the door he (Kanner) had warned him not to enter.
Surprisingly, it was unlocked which was the first time the door had ever been unlocked except when Kanner used it. Curiosity overtook rational thinking and he entered into the office where he saw the pool but the light had gone. On Tuesday, Bianca finally reconciled with Kiara after Becca and Trisha begged on her behalf. They were talking again and Kiara was grateful. The reconciliation lifted up burdens of her shoulders.
Bianca’s relationship with Andy was blossoming. It was the talk of the school especially among the twelfth graders. In one week she made more enemies than she could have made throughout her stay in high school especially among the girls who were wishing to get Andy first but thankfully her friends stood by her and were ready to defend her relationship although they wished they were in Bianca shoes except of course Kiara who had an unexplainable bad feeling for this Andy guy though she tried as much as possible not to show it especially when Bianca was around. He looked so familiar but she could not remember where she had seen him. Those blue eyes were not ordinary and all investigations on him were futile. He seemed to know when someone was following him. He was impossible to trace and the time for her searching was coming to an end quickly.
On Wednesday, they were supposed to have a test in two subjects, Biology and history. Kiara hated both classes because she could not read or write the English language. The English the merpeople spoke had a different written form from the one humans spoke so she conjured a heavy storm on the day of the test preventing most students from coming to school. Bianca was thankful for the storm. If only she knew who was behind it. Conjuring a storm was not hard for Kiara since she had been taught while in mermaid school. It was used when sailors ventured near mermaid territory.
Thursday was sports day and Kiara was chosen to represent her team in the swimming competition in which she performed excellently well. I mean she’s a mermaid right. Friday the last day of school for that week went quite well except for the bulk of assignments given to them (Kiara and Bianca). Saturday, Lance decided to take his family to the cinema. They watched three movies that day. Lance wanted to go for the fourth one but Helen didn’t give her approval. “Moderation is key”, she said. Finally Sunday came, the long awaited day for Bianca and probably her mother who was excited to see her daughter’s boyfriend even though Bianca had denied it several times stating they were still friends. The truth of the matter was that she was shy to admit that Andy was her boyfriend to her parents.

The whole house smelled of roasted turkey and rice. It was their tradition to always have the meal every Sunday night during the family dinner. Everyone was seated at the table by seven and just then the bell rang. “”I’ll get it Bianca said and left the table to answer the door. “Andy”, Bianca greeted and hugged as she opened the door. “Hope I’m not late”, he asked. “No you’re not; you are here just in time”, Bianca replied. They entered the house hands tucked in each other’s arm. “Andy meet my mum, Helen, my dad, Lance and Kiara my cousin”, Bianca said introducing the family to Andy. Helen was shocked to see Andy as though she knew him before. She glanced at Kiara but Kiara didn’t understand why Helen was uncomfortable. Though she didn’t like Andy for any reason; Helen had been so excited to see him but now it was the opposite. Lance didn’t react at all.
They sat down, offered prayers and began to dish out the food. “So who are you parents?” Lance began as they dished themselves the food. “My parents are Mr. and Mrs. Norman”, Andy replied with confidence. Helen was so nervous that her hands were shaking while she was serving herself. “Mom are you alright?” Bianca asked confused why her mother who was so excited to meet Andy looked as though she had seen a ghost all of a sudden. Even Kiara did not understand because it had not clicked but she was uncomfortable seeing Helen uncomfortable.
“Mrs. James, do I make you uncomfortable?” Andy asked in a tone that sounded like I know I do. “Oh no Po... Andy, I’m okay”, Helen said. “Excuse me” she said and left the table. “I'm so sorry”, Bianca said to Andy. “She was excited to see you, I don’t know why she’s like this”, she added. “I totally agree”, Lance chipped. “It’s okay, I understand”, Andy said. Throughout the conversation, Kiara was trying to figure out where she had seen Andy before. “Are your parents from here?” Lance asked again.
“No, they are actually going through a divorce and I'm staying with uncle pending the time they settle things”, he replied. Helen came back to the dining room looking better. The pale colour of her face was gone and she didn’t look nervous again. “I’m sorry for earlier on”, she apologized to Andy but the look on her face said otherwise. “What did I miss?” she asked. “Andy was just telling us about his parent divorce”, Lance said. “Dad”, Bianca said. “What?” he asked. “That’s a very sensitive issue you know”, Bianca said. “So, where did you say your parents were?” Helen asked giving him a piercing look. Andy choked on his food. Bianca patted his back and glared at her mum but Helen was bent on getting her answer.
“Atlantis”, he said. Everyone looked at him. “You mean like the lost city of Atlantis”, Bianca asked with a mixture of disbelief and surprise in her voice. “Of course not; I'm just joking”, he said and everyone laughed- an in genuine laugh. Then all of a sudden; Kiara remembered where she had seen him before. “Poseidon”, she muttered so that only Andy could hear. He looked at her and smirked. “So that was why Helen was so nervous initially”, she thought to herself. How come she had not realized that Andy was Poseidon? Did he enchant her or how? How could she not have realized it for so long?
“Excuse me”, she said and went to the bathroom. It was her turn to be nervous. What was he doing here? She asked herself. “I’ll have to follow her”, Bianca said getting up. Kiara was so perplexed. She was moving the water from the sink without her knowing it. Her confusion was making her control the water from all the taps in the bathroom. The water followed the rhythm of her breathing. “He’s Poseidon, he’s Poseidon”, she kept saying in a voice that had the mixture of excitement and fear.
“Kiara!” Bianca said shocked as she entered the bathroom and found Kiara manipulating the water. Kiara was startled as well. The entire taps ceased running. Kiara turned back and said, “I can explain. It’s not what you think”. “It’s not what?” Bianca asked. “I saw you clearly and you owe me an explanation”, Bianca said and walked out angrily. “Oh! Fuck!” Kiara said then covered her mouth. She had just used the swear word Helen told her not to use. But how could she explain that Bianca had seen her manipulating the water. “This is really bad”, Kiara said.
She left the bathroom and came back to the dinner.
They all looked at her as she went to her sit. Helen gave her a quizzical look but she smiled and said, “I'm okay”. The dinner continued in a very awkward manner. They seldom talked except when Helen announced dessert and lance asked Andy to pass him the dessert bowl.
“I’m sorry about how this went”, Bianca said as Andy was about leaving after the dinner. “Maybe it was not a good idea after all”, she continued. “Shh…”, he hushed her while placing his finger on her lips. “It’s okay, I understand”, he said. That was like the second term Bianca was hearing the statement.
He was so calm and cool. “So we’ll see on tomorrow”, she asked. He nodded positively, placed a kiss on her forehead and left. Bianca slammed the door and everyone startled. “Kiara start talking”, Bianca said sternly.
Authors note
Wow, so Andy is Poseidon? Did anyone see that coming? How do you think Bianca will react when everything is explained to her? Let me know by dropping your comments. Also, I wasn’t planning on stopping here but the chapter was getting long and I didn’t want to bore you (I hope you didn’t get bored). The next chapter may be really short. Till next time. Don’t forget to vote and drop your comments. I really need to see your reactions. Thanks
