The lost trident

Chapter Sixteen

The palace was decorated with seashells of every kind. Jellyfishes created multi-colored lights. There were beautiful corals everywhere. The palace was simply beautiful. The merpeople were obviously enjoying themselves and other invited sea creatures like the dolphins. They had come to display some acrobatics but before the ceremony began Neptune was holding a court session for Kanner and some other people. Not everybody was invited for the court session; only Kanner’s immediate family, Bianca and Helen and other merpeople of high caliber. Neptune was giving the judgment.

“Kanner”, he began. “You have been accused of trying to kill the king, treason and escape from exile. I would give you the opportunity of deciding your punishment”, Neptune said. Kiara heaved a sigh of relief. At least she would have a father figure for once in her life. She looked at Bianca who was holding her hands to give her support. Bianca still had her legs and it was awkward to see her underwater breathing normally.

“Your options are; Death by electrocution, Exile to Antarctica or death by Piranhas”, Neptune began. “I choose”, Kanner began. Kiara held her breath and Bianca squeezed her hand while Yehu, Kiara’s mother who was seating beside her closed her eyes. “To die by electrocution”, he finished. “so be it”, Neptune said without hesitation. Kiara could not believe her ears. Why would her father choose to die? Why would he leave her again? This is madness. She rushed to where he was, the guards tried to stop her. “Why?” She screamed hysterically. “I’m coming back for you”, he said, his voice devoid of any emotion.

“Order”, Neptune shouted and everywhere returned to normalcy. “The next case”, he said. Poseidon was brought forward. Father please I didn't know what I was doing”, Poseidon pleaded genuinely. “You have been charged with theft of the trident and treason”, Neptune began his judgment. “I therefore sentence you 12 years imprisonment in the Atlantic but before then I will strip you of every title and power you have”, Neptune added.

Poseidon begged but Neptune paid deaf ears. He collected his powers once again in the trident and the guards took him out

“That party was lit”, Bianca said as they swam to the surface along with Helen. “The dolphins were…. I don’t know the word to describe it”, she continued and Kiara laughed. They got on land and Helen transformed back to human. Lance was waiting from them.

the moon was full. It was the last day the moon would be out for that month. “so this is it”, Bianca said to Kiara. “Yea, I guess”, Kiara said. Bianca crouched low and gave Kiara a hug and so did Helen. “Till we meet again”, Bianca said as lance gave her a towel to clean herself and a blanket to cover herself. She had stayed underwater for too long. Kiara stayed afloat till they disappeared before diving back into the water. Her joy was full now. She was back home with her friend Nara and her mum. She wished her dad had not chosen to die. But she had stayed seventeen years without a father figure; she could manage for the remaining days of her life. As she swam, she saw a merman approaching her direction. To her shock, it was her father. “Father.”, she began to say but he hushed her. “I told you I will come for you”, he said. “I will never leave you again. I promise”, and with that he left. She was dazed for some seconds. He was dead, how did he escape, she kept asking herself. She sighed and went home still thinking of her encounter.

Wow, I know many will be like how did Kanner escape? Well I don’t know myself, he has a mind of his own but I think since Neptune did not seize his power, something may have happened when the guards took him out but I don’t know just guessing. So I guess this is the end. Thanks to all those who read from chapter one till now you are really kiaranators.
