The lost trident

Chapter Five

Chapter five
They finally got home after a thirty minute drive from school to their home. Kiara couldn't be more grateful. Throughout the ride, Bianca had been gushing about the new guy.

He is so hot and has the most amazing blue eyes I've ever seen. "I'm sure he is a semi god of some sort because no man born of human could be as handsome", she kept saying on and on much to the annoyance of Kiara. "Oh shit!" Bianca exclaimed as though she left something important at school. What?" Kiara asked. I forgot to ask of his name", she said. Kiara rolled her eyes. What?" Bianca asked as she caught her.

They entered the house and met Mrs. James with a visitor. Her expression was gloomy. "Thank you very much for your concern", Mrs. James said to the visitor as he was about leaving. "You are welcome", the visitor said. "Hey mum, who was that?" Bianca asked immediately the visitor left. "Oh that was a colleague of mine ", her mum replied.

"Kiara see me in my room", Mrs. James said. Kiara followed her to her room. Have a sit she said gesturing at the bed. Looks like you know what a sit means now", Mrs. James said as Kiara sat down.

"That visitor was from the pod", Mrs. James said going straight to the point. "We have limited time because despite the full moon, the ocean still faces imbalance", she continued. "We have to intensify our efforts", she added. "But it's hard", Kiara said. I can't do anything with this school business on my hands; I barely have time to do any search," she continued.

"I know but we can't risk Bianca finding out about you. She'll get suspicious once you stop attending school. She's a smart girl and I'm sure she's suspicious already", Mrs. James said. "Do what you can with the little time at your disposal," she said and they hugged.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" Poseidon said a little pissed off as Squitty; his pet giant squid brought Nara to where he was having a meeting with the sharks. "Let's eat her", the sharks said in their language. "Silence," Poseidon ordered raising the trident up.

"So you were on a spy mission isn't it," Poseidon asked. Nara refused to reply. "Oh our little mermaid can't talk," the older mermaid with Poseidon said mockingly. "I can handle this Kanner", Poseidon said with a hint of anger in his voice. Kanner was the mermen that tried to kill the king and take over the throne. Anyway whatever you were planning can't happen because this sharks you see here are about to invade your city - mermaid city and nothing can stop me", Poesidon said. "Lock her away", he ordered. "You can't get away with this" Nara screamed out on top of her gills as squitty dragged her by the tail to the deepest part of the ship- shark city.

"Sharks great and small", Poseidon continued his speech before Nara came in. "For long, the merpeople have terrorized you and your young. they not only terrorize you but mermen like Kanner and I. the time for our revenge has come. The sharks roared with excitement and wiggled their tails. They were hungry for the mermaids. "And we shall take our revenge", the roaring increased.

Kiara woke up. She checked the wall clock. It was one am. She didn't feel like sleeping anymore. Bianca was still sleeping; she was smiling in her sleep. "I bet she's thinking about that guy", Kiara thought to herself.

She opened the windows of the room and stared at the moon. It seemed to be calling her. It was a full moon. She was so mesmerized in it. All of a sudden, she found herself back with the pod. She had her tail again, her mum was with her and so was Nara. It looked as though they were talking about something.

Then they heard a scream, two screams, three screams and someone screamed sharks!! Nara had a panic attack, Kiara's mum tried to help her swim out of their cave but they were faced with a shark that glared it teeth hungrily at them. Then another shark was behind. On it sat a merman with the trident in his hands. Kiara's mum seemed to recognize the merman as she pleaded with him in a way that showed they were somehow close but he turned away and left them at the mercy of the shark. The shark opened its mouth and...

"Kiara snap out of it". She turned and faced Bianca who was looking at her with a weird expression. She glanced at the wall clock. It was four am. How long had she been looking at the moon? "Your scream woke me up", Bianca said as she noticed the confused expression on her face. "Scream?" she asked looking more confused than ever. "yea", Bianca replied. "Do you want to talk about it?" she asked. "No I'm fine, it was just a dream", Kiara responded as she went to bed.

She was covered herself with the blanket. Deep down I her heart she needed someone to talk to. Someone to share her feelings with but she couldn't tell Bianca. It was against every mermaid rule. "Do you have phobia for sharks?" Bianca asked. Kiara thought she was sleeping. "Why do you ask?" "You screamed it while you were in your trance". Bianca responded. She thought of what to say so that Bianca would not become suspicious. She found the perfect story. "My father was killed by a shark", she said, at least that's true, she thought to herself. "Oh! I'm sorry", Bianca said. "How did it happen?" "I don't know.

He died before I was born and my mum refused to talk about it", Kiara responded. According to her mum, her father was a hunter. He was usually allowed to cross the line along with other mermen hunters to hunt for the pod. They were attacked by a great white shark that killed her father but she could not tell Bianca that. "Goodnight", bianaca said and switched off her bed lamp. Kiara followed suit but she could sleep. The dream or vision she had kept her awake. Was the moon trying to send her a message? She did not understand at all.

Throughout the night she couldn't sleep. She felt like going to the ocean to see her mum, to make sure she was alright. And Nara, she missed Nara even if things were not settled between them. She had to find the trident and fast.
