"Ah! Sapphire and Yapa. Good to see you guys again. What can I do for you today?" A vet named Dr. G walked up to the three of us. He was very built but not so much it was unattractive. He was a nice man that was around his thirties with a lovely wife and two kids. No grey hairs showing and no worry marks on his face.
Alex was clinging onto my arm, the vet noticed and smiled, "And miss Alex. You finally come back." He said softly.
"Yapa hasn't been herself lately making me worry. Alex is sick, with probably just a fever but I want to be safer than sorry."
"Typical Sapphire. Well my schedule is empty so you three follow me."
We did as told but Yapa was falling behind. Dr. G looked back and noticed. He picked her up and carried her to a room. Alex and I followed to see Yapa laying in a big clean bed.
"Alex would you follow me to see Dr. Jay?" He said softly to Alex.
She looked me in the eyes as if asking permission. I nodded letting her go and she walked off with Dr. G.
I sat next to Yapa petting her neck. She looked so tired even though she's been sleeping all day. Maybe she has been getting to much sleep and needs to go outside more. I sighed, "What going on with you girl. You were okay yesterday when Bolin came. But after a couple of hours you got all sleepy." I kissed the top of her head petting her still. Her pure black fur was starting to turn gray on her snout. She is getting old isn't she. What I'm nineteen. I had her since I was two. She is a bit over seventeen since I got her at 6 months.
Dr. G came back alone with a clipboard.
"She should be okay. Just giving her a checkup first before we get into other things." He said talking about Alex.
I nodded.
He picked up Yapa carefully and laid her onto the metal bed.
"Has she been eating recently. She seems lighter." He asked checking her pulse through her thick fur.
"Not as much. But she still eats." I said thinking back.
"Has she been outside less than usual?"
"She only wants to go outside to relieve herself." The more I think about this makes me worry.
"What type of exercise was she doing before this."
"I live by a lake now so she would always swim in it. We would go run into the forest on and off trail. As always she goes with me when running errands. And other things here and there with Alex and Bolin. Sometime with other friends."
He was doing other things and checking her out, "Well she isn't due for any shots or anything. Is it okay if I do some blood work? Oh and has she been taking her heartworm treats monthly."
"I guess its okay even though I'm not very fond of blood work, and yes she has been eating them monthly." I looked at Yapa apologetically. In her dark eyes all I see is pain and sorrow? Why is she in pain? Why would she be sorry?
Dr. G picked her up knowing I wouldn't want to see her get blood work done.
Before he could leave I called his attention and asked for Alex's room.
I went to the room he said and knocked.
"It's clear." A woman's said softly. I assumed it was Dr. Jay.
I walked in to see Alex resting on the bed and Dr. Jay sitting in her chair typing something into the computer. She looked up at me and smiled, "Hello Sapphire. You know you are due for s checkup as well." She said.
