It was the weekend and only a couple of days since the attack at Hachi's house. Her parents didn't remember much of what happened. But when they woke up in the living room they found Hachi, on the couch watching TV, with Ren asleep on Hachi's lap. But before that Hachi and her friends had decided that it was best that they go to the countryside to practice their skills both as scouts and when they aren't. Hachi said she could ask her dad to rent one for her, so now they were sitting on a train, on their way, eating lunch that Ana had made for them, and made Hachi carry for her.
"Wow, Ana. You really know how to cook." Eleaya complemented her.
"Well, I do make lunch for me and Hachi every day." Ana said.
"Yeah, she started making my lunches three years ago after we first meet" Hachi smiled.
"Wow, and she hasn't poisoned your food yet?" Ra–Ra joked.
Everyone but Ana and Hachi started to laugh. When Eleaya realized they weren't laughing and had on grim faces, she stopped laughing and jabbed Ra–Ra in the side. Ra–Ra stopped laughing too than told Ren to shut up.
"What's wrong?" Eleaya asked.
"That's how Ana's mom died." Hachi said.
"Ana poisoned her?!" Ra–Ra asked.
"No, some guy at her office did!" Ana snapped at her. "He was in love with her, but was mad that she was in love with my dad, and he thought if he couldn't have her nobody could."
"So, she didn't want what happened to her mom to happen to anyone else." Hachi finished for her.
"Wow, what a way to go." Ren said.
"I didn't even know Ana's mom was dead." Eleaya and Ra–Ra said together.
"She thought that she had food poisoning, so she went back to bed. But when I went in to give her some soup, I found her lying on the floor. I walked over and shook her to wake her up, but it was too late. When I learned how long she had been on the floor, I was shocked." Ana said.
"How long was she on the floor?" Eleaya asked.
"She had been on the floor all morning. She walked upstairs to go back to bed and made it to her room and managed to shut the door, before." Ana paused a couple of minutes before she continued. "Before she fell. It was eight in the morning then. I was four and didn't know what was going on; I just thought she was sick like she did. My dad made her soup for lunch and I was bringing it to her –because my father got an important call from work and had to leave– so I found her at noon. She had been dead and on the floor for four hours before I found her. So I was home alone with my dad at work and my mom lying dead on the floor and I didn't know what to do, so I ran over to my neighbors for help, and that is basically all I can remember. Until the doctor said she was poisoned the day before, and that it took some time for the poison to take hold and kill her. After that, it had taken a year of investigating to figure out who killed her and the trial took 2 and a half years. The guy who did it is in jail for life with no hope of parole." Ana finished.
When Ana finished talking Eleaya, Ren, and Ra–Ra were too shocked to speak, but by then the train had stopped and they had to get off. To pick up the mood Hachi told them where they were going to stay for the weekend, seeing as they had to skipped school that day just to go and it was a Thursday.
"Okay, from here we will take a take a taxi due north for 24 miles then we will have to walk the rest of the way to the cabin, which should take about thirty minutes to an hour altogether," Hachi said putting Ren on her shoulder, hiding him with her hair. "Depending on how fast we walk."
