as i continued to walk towards him, he continued to get nervous. but the more i talked, the more hypnotized he was.

"no you s-stay over there." he said as i continued to come closer. i frowned and stopped dramatically.

"why?" i whined. "don't you want to play with me? i just wanted to have some fun with you guys. why don't you like me?" i continued to pout as i crept forward still. God, this was a short hallway but right now it seemed so long! the brunette was completely hypnotized and dropped the gun. the blonde was trying to figure out whether to be hypnotized too, or to attack me.

"stop, right now, lady." said the blonde. i frowned at him.

"but I'm not doing anything." i pointed out, hoping he'd believe me. that's when i leaped the last two steps and kicked the gun out of the brunette's hand. he stood there stunned, as i swung my bat to hit the blonde in the side of his head. there was a crack as the bat hit what i had aimed at, and the blonde fell, blood pooling into the carpet. i turned and swung my bat again, hitting the brunette in the thigh. he grunted as the bat hit a nerve deep in the muscle. i spun around and swung again, this time the cracking sound was on his upper arm, and i knew that he had a broken arm. i started to swing one last time, aiming for his head, but the bat was ripped from my hands. confused i turned to see the third man behind me.

"Oh.." was all i had time to say before he knocked me unconscious.

when i woke up, Judy was laying next to me. i sat up, a splitting pain shooting through my skull. i got up to go find some ibprophen. i opened the cupboard to find the entire thing empty. shocked, i opened the other cupboards, finding them all empty. i walked through the entire house, discovering that everything in the house was gone. even the things in the bathrooms were gone. what happened? then i remembered the robbery, my beating up all of them but then going down. they took everything. the furniture, the plates, the cutlery. the only things they had left were the clothes that we were wearing. which was a relief, because that meant they hadn't raped us while we were unconscious.

"Judy. Judy, wake up." i rocked her back and forth, waking her.

"ten more minutes mom.." she mumbled. impatient, i slapped her. she sat up quickly holding her hands like she was going to karate chop me.

"what happened?" Judy asked. "i remember some men coming in, and then.. is that BLOOD?!" she squeaked.

"yes. i tried to fight them all off with my baseball bat. i almost did but then one of them came up from behind me and knocked me out." i looked around to find that they even took the phone. so they couldn't call for help.

"we need to go to the police," i said.

"what's wrong with the-oh." she said when she saw that the phone was gone.

"come on, we better start walking." i held out my hand to help her up.

at the police station, they had to give them everything they knew about them. i told them their eye and hair color, and how tall i had thought they were. i also mentioned how buff they were.

when we were done being interrogated, we were sent home to where our families were. lucky for Judy, that was just a town over.

"i'll hitchhike. I'm not sure what other choice there is." Judy said. "i feel bad for you though, Sara. your parents live in Nebraska. good luck"

"Judy, wait!" i grabbed her arm and handed her my very sharp pocket knife "take this. you can defend yourself better this way."

"are you sure? i mean that's your knife!" she said wide-eyed.

"yes I'm sure. I'd rather you be safe than keep it. besides, i have one that my dad gave me. keep it." i smiled. "and be smart Judy. don't chicken out like you always do if you get into a situation. you might need this. if you do, use it and don't hold back. use your instincts."

"thanks. for everything. good luck hitchhiking to Nebraska." she smiled back.

"thanks. good luck to you too." i hugged her then started walking down the highway towards home. this was going to be a long walk.

walking down the highway, i hooked my thumb to every car that passed, hoping to get a ride. my legs were tired, and i had been walking all day. finally, when i hooked my thumb, a red car pulled over. a young man about my age rolled down the window and smiled.

"need a ride?"

"yes please!" i opened the door and sat in the car.

"where you heading?" he asked. cautious, i told him the next big city along the way to Nebraska so he couldn't find me.

"well what luck, that's where i was going!" i nodded and leaned back. i looked down and saw a map that said he was supposed to be turning a long way before the city i mentioned. just as i thought. i picked it up. he glanced at me nervously.

"it says your supposed to be turning forty miles before the city I'm going to." i looked at him, hand on my pocket knife. "what are you doing?"

"i was kinda hoping to get your number when i dropped you off?" he smiled sheepishly. well, it could be worse. he could've denied it and ended up raping me.

"i don't have a number." i said and sat back.

"what?" he asked, more than a little shocked.

"i was robbed." i said.

"oh, ok" he frowned. we rode in silence until we got to his turn off.

"you can drop me off here. you helped me cover almost thirty miles that i would've had to take on foot. I'm not going to make you take me farther than your going."

"alright." he sighed. but when he pulled over he put his hand on my thigh. i didn't hesitate to yank my pocketknife out of my pocket and hold it out. shocked, he held up his hands.

"i hope you understand that I'm only doing this because i don't know you, and I'm hitchhiking. which is dangerous. now, drive away, and leave me alone or i'll cut off your finger." i said, my voice full of confidence. but inside, i was trembling with fear. that's a good skill to have i guess. keeps you safe from the bad guys.

"ok. just, don't hurt me." he said, his eyes on the knife. i closed the door, standing there, waiting until he drove away. i then started to walk again, hooking my thumb at any passerby willing enough to give me a ride.
