i rubbed my eyes, waking up when we stopped for gas. Dean was standing next the impala, putting in gas and Sam was reading a map, drawing with a marker where was the fastest route. i looked over his shoulder to see the drawn on line stopping with a dot on Kearney, Nebraska. i gasped.

"oh hey, you're awake." Sam glanced back at me, grinning. then his grin disappeared and frowned when he saw my pale face with my eyes locked on the map. he looked at it and then me, confused. Dean sat in the car and looked at our faces.

"what did i miss?" he said, looking between our faces.

"where are the vampires exactly?" i asked, looking Sam in the eyes.

"in a tiny town by Kearney Nebraska, why?" Dean frowned and shifted in his seat, turning to see me better.

"Sam, what's the town called." i said calmly. i was almost panicking.

"it's about five miles south of Lexington." he said. then everything started spinning and i fainted. I've never fainted before. like ever. I've never lost consciousness involuntarily.

i ran down the highway from Lex, running towards home. i ran as hard as i could until my sides burned. then i ran some more i ran onto the road and ran the one mile from the highway to my home. i shifted and sprinted down the long driveway of the farmhouse. i found our dog under the large wooden porch, whimpering when he saw me. i glanced to my left and froze. there, in the middle of the yard, all the chickens were laying about a foot apart. the feathers were spread all over the yard and so was the blood. i turned, and opened the door to my family's farm house. as soon as i stepped in, the smell hit me. like rotted meat. it was very similar to the time a cow died in our yard and within an hour, the entire yard smelled like death. i walked down the hall. there was a bloody and smeared hand print on the wall. the smear was in the direction of the living room. i ventured farther into the house, the smell getting worse. i pulled my shirt over my mouth and nose in an attempt to make the smell go away. i walked into the living room and my entire family was on the floor, their necks ripped out and blood all over the floor. my three brothers and two sisters, my mom and dad. i fell to my knees, choking out a sob.

"there's nothing you can do now." i turned towards the voice and saw a vampire. i screamed in fury and flung myself at it. he grabbed my neck and flung me on the floor next to my dad. i looked at him and his head turned. his glazed over, dead eyes looked at me. his mouth started moving.

"wake up, Sara..." he said. "wake up."

i screamed out a sob and jolted out of my nightmare and sat up, looking at Dean's concerned face. i was across his lap and my face was wet. i touched my cheek with my finger tip and found tears rolling down my face.

"Sara?" Dean looked at me. "are you ok? what happened?" furious, i stood up and spotted Sam talking to the cashier who had probably come out to find out what the screaming was.

"everything's fine." i barked at her. she started back to the building startled. then i walked up to Sam and punched him in the jaw. he stumbled backwards, stunned and held his jaw.

"what the hell was that for?" he asked, fear in his eyes.

"why didn't you tell me there were vampires in Lex!" i screamed at him.

"why did it matter where it was?" he asked, startled.

"is it closer to elwood or lex?!" i yelled. he looked puzzled and stunned at me knowing.

"elwood, how did you know?" he asked. i punched him again. this time he fell to the ground. i bent over and screamed at him, tears streaming down my face.

"BECAUSE ELWOOD IS MY HOME!" i screamed in his fear filled face. Dean came up behind me and grabbed my waist. i threw him off.

"get in!" i yelled. i got into the driver's seat and adjusted the seat. no one complained. i put it into gear and took off down the highway. it was a miracle i wasn't flying, really. i still had tears coming out of my eyes and pooling on my legs. i drove almost a hundred miles, going two hundred, tears coming  from my eyes and everything else silent.

"you need to turn right up ahead." Sam said quietly. i slowed down and turned sharply, making the car tip just slightly. then i shot off again. i drove the rest of the way, through the night even. i wasn't able to sleep knowing my family was in danger.

we had just passed through Lincoln, Nebraska when Dean lifted his head, yawning.

"do you need me to look at the map?" he asked, searching around for it.

"no. i know exactly where we are." i said evenly. he looked at me, his green eyes blank and his mouth open just a tad.

"ok why are you acting like this?" he asked.

"because my family is in danger. there is a whole caven of vampires living no more than ten miles away from my home and I can't act this way?" i glanced at him. "i can't sleep until i know for a fact that my family is safe, and i can't do a god damned thing about it except drive two hundred miles and hour, driving home."

"i didn't mean-"

"no Dean, you would act the same way if Sam was in danger. except my family doesn't know shit about what's near by and i have to get there first." i growled under my breath. Dean moved across the seat to sit next to me. he put his hand on mine which was on the steering wheel. i was white knuckling it with both hands. he grabbed my hand and gently pulled it off the steering wheel. i hesitated to let him, but i let go of the wheel and let him take my hand in his. he traced the tattoo on my thumb muscle that he had wrestled me over seeing not ten minutes after i met him. he started rubbing my hand, and damn did it feel good. i started to loosen up, the tension leaving my body. but then Dean ran his finger over a scar on my arm and i tensed up again. i put my hand back on the wheel and drove even faster.

i sighed and scooted back over to the passenger side. she was worried for her family. i got that. but she had started to relax when i was rubbing her hand, so why did she tense up again? now that i think about it, i think my thumb had brushed an old scar. what could it have been from? if it was old, it would have mostly healed unless it was a really bad injury. i glanced at Sara, with both of her hands on the wheel, her knuckles white. she glared at the road as if it had done something wrong. every time we came up on any car, she easily glided the car around it. i glanced at the clock and saw that it read two forty-one. i laid back down and went back to sleep. what on earth was that scar from that made her tense up as soon as i brushed it?
