charlotte's point of view
i looked at the screens in front of me, showing various pictures of a family. what stood out though was the younger looking richard that was holding either his mother or his father's hand in each picture. he was between 10 and 15 when these pictures were taken, why is my uncle showing them now?
"these are the only pictures we have of your parents' assassins." he said, answering my silent question but making even more questions. "they haven't been seen in years, some even suspect they died, but i just know they're alive." he paused of a moment and typed something in his computer.
their digital files appeared on the screen, including richard's. his murders were listed from four years ago up until this year. my eyes began to water, i didn't even know why.
my parents' faces appeared out of nowhere. i began tearing up, but i blinked rapidly to avoid worrying them.
"mom, dad." i breathed out. "i'm sorry i haven't been able to call you, i-i just-"
"it's okay, princess." my dad spoke first with a wide smile on his lips. "we're just glad to see you again."
i swallowed as i forced myself to ask them, "when are you coming back?"
they looked at each other. i knew that face, they looked at each other like that when i asked them if i could go out. they always ended up giving me a lecture and it was too late to leave by the time they were finished.
"soon, sweetheart. when it's safe for us and you."
i shook my head. "you've been saying that for two years. i can't do this without you."
"hey, baby look at me." my mom spoke this time. her sweet voice always calmed me down and she knew it. she was using it against me now. "your uncle is so close to finding-"
"i don't give a shit about finding your killer or not. i want you back."
mom took a deep breath. "sweetheart, they're trained assassins. if they find out we're alive, they won't hesitate to finish their job. they could kill you too, i can't let that happen."
they were trained assassins. richard's parents. my missions. it all made sense now.
oh my fucking god.
my eyes widened at the realization. i looked at my uncle, then at my parents. "i think i know how to find them."
