charlotte's point of view
sorry in advance for the short chapter,
i wanted to give you something since i
forgot to update on fridayit's been almost three weeks and we haven't made any progress as to who attacked my dad. he was already home with us and my baby bump was growing faster than it should. with my dad home, mom was becoming distracted because she started to take care of him. my uncle was not pleased that he was left with the administrative side once again. on the bright side, it meant that christopher and liz were able to sneak me out to take me to the doctor. of course, richard and zabdiel tagged along. our little group was beginning to form a sort of bond due to our small reunions. sometimes we didn't even talk about our suspects, we knew we didn't have any leads at all, so we ended up just going to the reunions to spend time with each other.
"my boobs hurt." i whined and pulled my legs up to my chest as close as i could with the visible bump on my abdomen. i looked up at richard. "kiss it better."
"oh my god, not in my car." zabdiel groaned as he stopped at a red light. he turned towards us so he could glare at us.
liz slapped his shoulder. "eyes on the road. the package can't get hurt or else i'll castrate you."
"i don't know what should i focus on," richard sat up, forcing me to sit up as well and take my head off his shoulder. "the fact that you just called my girlfriend a package or the mental image of you castrating zabdiel."
"what's that smell?" i sniffed. "is that chinese food? i want chinese food..." i mumbled.
"we're late for the appointment." liz smiled apologetically. "i'll buy you chinese after we see how is the baby doing."
"the baby is fine! god, you're such a mom. are you sure i'm the one pregnant and not you?" i sighed and closed my eyes, leaning back into richard's shoulder. "i better get a double portion, i'm eating for two."
richard laughed. "we'll see, princess."
we finally arrived at the hospital. a nurse quickly guided us into a small room and asked that only richard stay with me due to the limited space available. i held onto richard's hand when the doctor started smearing the clear gel onto my stomach with the ultrasound stick. he gently pressed down and moved it around until you could faintly make out a small circle. i let out a breath i didn't know i was holding as i gazed at the monitor.
"you mentioned an accident, right?" the doctor asked rhetorically as he glanced at my stomach, most likely trying to make out what the half healed pink scar and the fully healed but smaller scar were for. "how far along did you think you are?"
"between seven and eight weeks." i bit my lip.
"you must be at least twice that time to be showing already, but the baby seems to be the right size. unless..." he trailed off as he kept moving the wand on my abdomen.
after a couple seconds of silence, richard decided to break it. "unless...?"
i stared at the monitor, trying to find anything wrong with the baby. i didn't even know what i was looking at, until the doctor pointed at two different spots, both identical circles.
"i am almost a hundred percent sure that you're carrying twins..." he glanced at the paper sheet that contained my information. "miss muñoz. of course, we will be able to tell for sure in the next appointment. due to your accident, i do recommend coming back in two weeks. if everything is well, we could schedule for every three or four weeks like usual."
i squeezed richard's hand, who squeezed my hand right back. we were both in disbelief, clearly expecting the worse and coming out with the best news. no words were exchanged out loud, we knew exactly what the other wanted to say. i felt richard's lips against my temple and i closed my eyes, letting a tear of happiness slide down my cheek.
