richard's point of view

i paced around the waiting room for what felt like hours. i had began to hate this place since lately it seemed like the only place i visited.

"she's gonna be fine." christopher murmured, but i don't know if he was trying to convince me or himself.

"her stitches were completely healed. i don't understand why she started bleeding..." i ran a hand through my hair, tugging slightly at the ends. "did her parents hurt her? what happened last night?"

he shook his head. "she slept in my room. they knew about you, i was afraid they would do something to her. i should've noticed they were following me."

"this is not your fault." i interjected. "they were going to find us sooner or later." i chewed on my bottom lip. "...what do you mean they knew about me?"

he sighed and dropped his head on his hands. "they said they had someone following charlotte at all times. a 'bodyguard' they said, but he was quite shitty at his job if he let char get hurt so many times."

i crossed my arms over my chest. "i would've noticed if someone was following her. that was kind of my job before we met."

christopher chuckled. "i'm sorry, but that sounds really fucking weird."

i cracked a smile. "i think that's the least weird thing going on in our lives."

i dropped myself on a chair. it had been hours since we arrived yet they hadn't given us a single update on her. that's a good thing, in a way. if she wasn't alright they would inform us immediately.

"your dad and uncle are not gonna let me see her." i sighed and leaned my head against the wall.

"i don't care." he clenched his jaw. "she needs you."

"i brought some coffee." liz arrived with three coffees in her hand. "i suspect we're gonna be here for a long time."

"thanks." christopher smiled at her and she blushed before handing me mine.

"thank you." i mumbled.

the coffee was kind of bitter, but hospital food is never really good. i wasn't in the mood to eat or drink anything anyways. i could faintly hear christopher telling liz what happened. i got up and started pacing around the room again.

"she talks about you all the time."

i turned around to find both of them looking at me. when i didn't say anything, liz kept talking.

"seeing her face light up when she was getting ready to see you really made me happy. i hadn't seen her smile so big since her parents... well, you know." she smiled nervously. i looked down and noticed her hand was holding christopher's. that was all i wanted to do with charlotte, hold her hand and tell the entire world that she was mine, and i was hers.

"she's like my little sister, you know that already, so it's my duty to protect her from assholes like you," christopher teased. "but i'm glad she has you."

our lives were pretty messed up. our parents' rivalry indirectly brought us together, and it would not tear us apart. not after all we've been through. nothing could keep me away from the love of my life.

"richard!" i turned around to find zabdiel sprinting towards me. he grinned. "i came as soon as i could. i'm sorry, i can't risk charlotte's crazy family killing my best friend." he turned to christopher and liz. "no offense."

christopher laughed. "our family is crazy, though."

"any updates?" zabdiel asked. i shook my head and sighed.

"i don't understand what's taking so long." i scoffed.

"i'm gonna find out if my crazy family is hiding something from us." christopher murmured under his breath before getting up and walking towards a nurse.

i chewed nervously on my bottom lip when i came to a realization. charlotte never had someone following her. i was always alert so our families wouldn't find out. the only times i let my guard down... were the times when someone tried to kill her.

could her parents be behind everything?
