richard's point of view

holy. fucking. shit.

did she just admit her parents aren't dead?

"my father tried to kill your parents..."

she scoffed. "that's what i just fucking said, didn't i?"

"tried to kill... as in he didn't succeed." i raised my eyebrows. "they're alive."

i saw her eyes go wide as a million emotions ran across them. i felt her intentions of bolting to the door, so i held onto her hands.

"babe, baby, listen to me. i'm not my father. i won't run to him to tell this either. my loyalty doesn't lie with him." i placed my hand on her cheek. "my loyalty is to you and only you."

her eyes seemed glossy. she was about to cry. i wrapped my arms around her and closed my eyes as i hugged her as tightly as i could without hurting her. she hesitated, but then she returned the hug. we stood there for a couple of minutes. i wanted to make sure she was okay, both emotionally and physically, because we needed to move if we didn't want to encounter... nobody? that's such a stupid name. i would rather die than let people know me as nobody.

"i have to tell my uncle and christopher." she looked up at me. "you must come with me."

i pressed my lips together. "one, as soon as i walk into that place they'll put a bullet right in my heart. two, if i'm seen near that place, i might as well not return home ever. my father would kill me."

"then don't go back." she wrapped her arms around my neck and bit her bottom lip. "stay with us. i promise they won't hurt you."

"they won't exactly receive me with open arms either." i sighed and kissed her forehead. "look, let's focus right now. you're injured and i'm pretty sure you should be in bed right now, but we need to move. if those were his men following you earlier, they know about me now."

she nodded and dropped her hands to her sides. "where are we going?"

i took out my phone, i scrolled down my contacts and found zabdiel's number. if there was anyone i could trust, it was him. i called him, but there was no answer.

"he's not answering..." i murmured to myself, but charlotte heard it.

"who?" she asked.

"zabdiel, he's my best friend. like a brother to me. my father has to be giving them a mission, the guy is always on his phone."

she looked down. "you don't think... he may be ordering them to kill me?"

"no way." i shook my head. "i don't know why, but he has a soft spot for you. his whole demeanor softens when it comes to you. i didn't pay much attention to it before, but..."

"a soft spot for me?" she laughed. "the man that seems to hate his own son, has a soft spot for a girl whose parents he tried to kill? you seriously think i'm gonna believe that?"

it was hard to believe. "that is the same man that wouldn't hesitate to kill anyone, even his own family, yet he made me watch over you to make sure you stay alive and i have no fucking idea why."

"what, i'm his long lost daughter and he wants to make amends with me? don't make me fucking laugh. i thought i could trust you, richard. if you're gonna keep bullshitting me i think i might as well just turn myself in to those guys that wanna kill me, if you're not lying to me about that too and it's actually you who wants to kill me."

i shouldn't have let go of her hands. i shouldn't have let her walk out of that place without me. my legs were stuck to the floor, i couldn't move. a single gunshot was heard, followed immediately by screams. my heart dropped as i finally got my legs to move towards the door charlotte had disappeared into, but it wasn't as fast as i'd like.

"please don't be dead." i whispered to myself as i finally walked through the front door, only to encounter myself with charlotte's body laying on the floor.
