Shannon had hardly slept and when she could just about see daylight through the curtains, she looked at the clock and saw it said 06:15.
She sighed and got out of bed, leaving Kailan snoring softly.
She made herself a coffee and sat out on Kailan's small balcony, watching the trees sway slightly in the breeze.
Shannon hated the fact that sometimes she had far too many thoughts racing through her head. She knew that she should just be making the most of her time left at Bondi and accept that when she leaves that it would most likely be the end of her and Kailan. But thinking that part just hurt too much.
After quite a while, and another couple of cups of coffee later, she heard a knock at Kailan's front door and was unsure if she should answer or not. Nobody had rung the buzzer to be let into the building so this must be somebody already inside.
She tiptoed to the door, put the chain on, opened it ever so slightly and peered through the gap.
"Shannon!" shouted Jack excitedly
Shannon closed the door to remove the chain and opened it again, fully to see a smiling Jack with a concerned looking Heath.
"Hi" she said, confused as to why they were there.
"A neighbour let me in, sorry to disturb you this early" Heath said quietly "I've been phoning Kailan but I'm guessing he's asleep"
"Errr yeah he is but its fine" she replied "Sorry guys, come in, come in"
They followed her through to the living room and Heath put on the television for Jack
"You watch cartoons for a minute buddy ok" he said "Keep the volume down though, I'm just gonna go talk to Shannon in the kitchen"
Jack nodded and Shannon followed Heath through to the kitchen
"Coffee?" Shannon asked him
"No thanks, erm I really am sorry to drop in like this but I really need help and there just isn't anyone else I can trust" He whispered
"I'll wake Kailan" she said, squeezing Heath's arm gently
"Thanks" he smiled
Shannon crept into the bedroom where Kailan was now awake, sat up and looking confused
"What's going on?" he yawned
"It's Heath, he needs your help" she replied "He's in the kitchen, I'll go and sit with Jack"
Kailan went into the kitchen so Shannon went into the living room and sat next to Jack on the sofa.
"Where's my Dad?" Jack asked, not looking away from the television
"He's just in the kitchen with Kailan" she smiled and Jack simply shrugged his shoulders and carried on watching the cartoon.
About five minutes later, Shannon heard footsteps coming out of the kitchen and Heath and Kailan appeared in the living room doorway.
"Right Jack" said Heath "I just gotta go somewhere real quick but Kailan is gonna hang with you till I get back" Heath
"Can't I come too?" said Jack, his eyes still fixated to the television
"Don't you wanna hang with me buddy" said Kailan, pretending to be upset
"Yeah!" shouted Jack as he jumped off the sofa and flung himself at Kailan, who caught him and then held him upside down
