Chapter 9 - We make a good team

Shannon's alarm went off at 7:00am, she got straight up and jumped in the shower. She was out in record time and decided to put her long hair up in a messy bun on top of her head to keep it out of her way.

Rachel had made her promise to check in a couple of times throughout the day and she had said "He may be a lifeguard but that didn't mean he isn't a creep". Shannon had laughed at her warning but had promised to be on her guard.

She finished getting ready and checked her watch at 7:50am, threw her favourite bikini and a towel in her bag along with her phone some money and made her way into the kichen. She heard a car pull up outside and could see from the window that it was Kailan so she grabbed her sunglasses and most importantly her sunscreen and headed out the door.

"Morning" she said to him as he jumped out the car to meet her

Kailan grinned back at her and opened the passenger car door for her "You're doing well considering you aren't a morning person" he joked as he jumped back in the driver's seat and shut the door.

"You promised coffee and it's the only thing keeping me going" she laughed

"Hahaha, five minutes and I will get you the best coffee you will ever have" He said smiling that smile that made Shannon go a little bit giddy.

They drove down a narrow little road and pulled up in front of a small cafe. They both got out of the car and headed towards the door of the cafe which Kailan held open for her to go through – Shannon was not used to being around a man with manners and it was lovely to see a real gentleman!

Inside the cafe, Shannon inhaled the smell of coffee and what smelled like freshly baked pastries. There was nobody else inside apart from a small boy sat at one of the tables playing on a computer game.

"Hey KC!" shouted a man behind the counter

"Hey Heath, how goes it buddy" replied Kailan, slapping the man's outstretched hand.

"Same old same old mate, can't complain" he replied before looking at Shannon and smiling "C'mon mate, don't be rude, introduce us then"

"Sorry, Heath- this is Shannon, Shannon- this is Heath" said Kailan

"Nice to meet you" smiled Heath shaking Shannon's hand and winking at her

"You too" replied Shannon

"Lovely accent there, you're from the north of England right?" Heath asked

"Yeah that's right" replied Shannon

"So where you two headed?" asked Heath as Kailan handed Shannon a small laminated card with a list of coffees and breakfast pastries on it.

"I am attempting to show Shannon the best parts of Bondi" said Kailan as he leaned on the glass counter.

"Well as Kailan is one of the best things about Bondi you've already made a start" joked Heath nudging Shannon and making her laugh.

"Don't start" warned Kailan "Give us a flat white and whatever Shannon wants"

"I'd love a latte please" Shannon answered.

Kailan nodded his head in the direction of the small boy sat at the table and whispered "What's Jack doing here?"

"Hey Jacky boy" shouted Heath "Show KC why you're not in school buddy"

The small boy turned his chair round and held up his right leg which was in plaster.
