Chapter 39 - She's gone

Shannon stared at Karen open mouthed as she just couldn't think of anything to say.

"Karen!" they heard Jesse shout behind them

"Come on" said Karen as she stood up

"Wait, Karen, you need to tell him" Shannon whispered.

"Don't you think I know that" Karen hissed

They walked back up the beach in silence to where Kailan and Jesse were now stood next to Kailan's car.

"So you gonna tell me what all this is about?" asked Jesse

Karen nodded "Let's go to yours" she said quietly

"Come on" Shannon said to Kailan "You're back here working in a few hours"

"I'm sorry Kailan" sniffed Karen

"It's no bother, honestly" he smiled

Shannon hugged Karen "We'll talk tomorrow ok" she whispered

Karen said nothing and turned to walk away with Jesse so Kailan and Shannon got back into his car.

"So, you don't have to tell me anything obviously but I'm guessing it's not good" he said

Shannon smiled at him but shook her head "Not really my place to say, sorry"

Kailan nodded and stroked her face, started the car and drove back to his apartment. They both fell back into bed, exhausted and fell asleep in each other's arms pretty much straight away.

Later on, Shannon opened her eyes and she could hear Kailan moving around in the kitchen. Looking at the clock, she realised he should have been at work already so she got out of bed and quickly went into the kitchen

"Shouldn't you be at work?" she asked him, slightly concerned

"Yatesy swapped with me so I'm going in this afternoon instead" he replied

"When did you sort that out?" she asked as she sat down on one of the bar stools at his breakfast bar.

"About an hour ago" he laughed

"Well good old Yatesy hey" she laughed in return

"So you have me all to yourself for the next couple of hours" he grinned

"Lucky me" she laughed

"I just wanna spend as much time with you as possible right now" he said as he pulled her into hug

"Me too" she smiled as she hugged him back tightly.

Kailan started making some breakfast so Shannon started brewing a pot of coffee.

"So what you thinking of doing this afternoon?" he asked

"Perving on this hot lifeguard at the beach" she laughed

"I have heard there is a pretty hot one working this afternoon" he smiled "You know the type, tall, dark, handsome"

"I'm definitely there then" she replied

Kailan drove Shannon home and then went straight to the beach to start work. Shannon was to get changed and then head down there too.

The house was silent when she opened the front door, throwing her keys on the kitchen counter, she shouted "Anyone home?"

With nobody answering her, she carried on through to her bedroom to get changed. Picking out her favourite red bikini, she tied her hair into a loose side braid, put her white sundress on and grabbed her beach bag. She went back into the kitchen searching for some sunscreen and her shoes and stuck a note on the fridge to tell the rest of the house where she was going.
