Chapter 10 - Drunk Australians

They drove back slowly through the now very wet roads so Shannon took the opportunity to text Rachel.

Hey, just a quick msg to let u know am fine, having a good time, lots to tell u!!! : -) xx

They came to a standstill behind what appeared to be a big queue of traffic not going anywhere.

"Well, looks like we aren't going anywhere for a while" said Kailan leaning his head out of the window trying to see what the hold up was and getting drenched in the process. He shut the window quickly and turned to face Shannon "You will have to tell me a joke or something to keep me entertained"

Shannon racked her brain trying to think of a joke he might appreciate when she saw someone come running out of a bar they had ended up stopped outside and come running towards the car. She was about to alert Kailan when the figure put his finger to his lips to signal a "shhhh" and she realised it was Maxi

"Come on, I'm waiting" said Kailan

"Errrm" Shannon stalled while trying her best not to laugh and give the game away

Maxi banged on the window and Kailan jumped out of his skin as Shannon couldn't help but laugh out loud

"Bloody hell, what the...MAXI!" he yelled when Maxi opened the car door hysterically laughing

"Sorry dude, couldn't help it" Maxi said still laughing "Look, you aint goin anywhere in this traffic, there is a delivery of some sort all over the road up there so I say park up and come in and join us for a drink"

Kailan looked at Shannon for an answer and she shrugged and smiled in agreement. Kailan pulled the car over to the side of the road and they ran over to the bar Maxi had disappeared back into. Inside, sat with Maxi were Whippet and Deano and they had clearly already had a few drinks.

"Hey you two, had a good day?" Whippet asked, pulling out a chair for Shannon

"Yeah thanks" replied Shannon "I'll get this round in, what does everyone want"

"Beers" Maxi, Whippet and Deano said in unison

"I still gotta drive so I better go for an oj" said Kailan

"Well if you trust me with your car, I don't mind driving you all home"

Maxi cheered and slapped Kailan on the back "She is a total legend dude" and he pulled Shannon into a hug.

"I can't ask you to do that Shannon" said Kailan

"You didn't ask, I offered" she replied with a smile and headed off to the bar and ordered four beers and a diet pepsi,

"Shannon, your phone's ringing" shouted Maxi

Before Shannon could move he had answered it

"Hellooooooo Shannon's phone, this is Maxi, how may I help you today" he said drunkenly down the phone

"Well helloooo lovely Rachel, how are you?.........Why yes she is right here............traffic is really bad so I made them come into the bar while it clears.........what are you guys up to............ah ha..........well come join us...........oh hang on, she's here

Shannon held her hand out for her phone and Maxi sheepishly handed it over

"Hey Rach, sorry about that, did you all get home ok with this storm?" said Shannon

"Yeah, just got in" Rachel replied "How drunk are they"

"Not that bad, I've said I'll drive them home in Kailan's car so as soon as the road is clear I'll get them moving and I'll be home" replied Shannon
