Chapter 13: Percy
Even before Percy got squashed by three of his friends, he was having a pretty rotten day.
Girlfriend about to die: check.
Friends completely freaking out: check.
Old hag strutting around the ship like she owned it: check. (Though to be honest, the hag who had called herself Teknia might have disappeared already...Percy couldn't see her anywhere)
So, when Hazel, Piper, and Frank appeared out of thin air, right over Percy's head, and fell right on him, naturally he wasn't in the most forgiving mood.
"Hey, good to see you," he said sarcastically, disentangling himself from the pile of bodies, "nice of you to drop in, huh?"
Piper raised her eyebrows, "Worst pun of all time,"
"You guys just dropped onto my head - I thought the sky was falling! I think I can make a couple jokes!"
"I'm sorry, it's just kind of hard to aim when shadow traveling!" Hazel protested. Percy had to crack a smile,
"You're telling me. Nico ended up in China once. But anyways, good to see you, glad that you're all alive. Did it work?"
Hazel frowned, "What?"
Percy rolled his eyes. Apparently, he wasn't the only Seaweed Brain around town,
"Annabeth is about fifteen minutes away from saying hi to Luke again, what do you think I'm talking about?"
"Who's Luke?" Frank asked, looking puzzled. Percy threw up his hands in exasperation,
"It doesn't matter. The point is, did you get the cure?"
"Oh, yeah," Hazel said breezily, pulling a vial out of her pocket.
"Oh, and remember Tyche said Adonis would give us something important to help with the giants?" Frank interjected, "we got that too,"
Percy exhaled, relief crashing over him. Annabeth would be ok. But then he tightened up again,
"Hazel...why does that look disturbingly like blood?"
Hazel shifted uneasily, "Um...because it is. A few drops of Adonis's blood - which is not gold ichor by the way, because he's a spirit, not a god, and - " she thought for a second, "a dash of sugar and some honey I think, to improve the flavor he said."
Percy felt slightly sick, "Are you saying that Annabeth has to drink some spirit's blood to live?"
Piper, Hazel, and Frank nodded, and Percy wanted to faint. On one hand, he definitely wanted Annabeth to live, but on the other hand...
"Why does it matter so much?" Piper asked, frowning, catching sight of his expression. Percy struggled for words,
"Will - will she - "
"Spit it out," Frank urged.
"Will she...become a vampire?" Percy choked out. Hazel, Frank, and Piper stared at him for a full three seconds, then they all burst out laughing. Percy's mouth dropped open at the sight - did they think he was joking?
