Grandpa drove straight to VIP headquarters. The building was located on North 4th Street. It was disguised as a homemade fudge shop. The women in the front of the store took one look at Ren and directed her to the back. Sally the older women slipped Ren a piece of fudge as she went past. Ren and Grandpa got on the elevator the doors closed and Ren pressed the button labeled B2. The elevator started down but stopped at B1. A small panel in the wall opened and Ren had to look in the goggles that stuck out of the panel. A small red laser passed over her eyes and within moments the elevator headed down again. When the door open at B2 Jeremy was standing waiting for her.
“What's up Ren? You don't look so good.” The look on Jeremy's face showed concern for his daughter. “Dad what's happening?”
Grandpa spoke up before Ren had a chance. “I think it should come from Ren. But I can tell you it's bad.”
“Father I need to show you a video I took at an assembly today. Can we go somewhere private?”
“Absolutely Sweet-pea. Let's use my office.” They all went inside and Jeremy closed the door as soon as everyone was in and seated. Ren took out her phone walked over to the flat screen TV on the wall and plugged it in. When her father was seated she pressed play.
The two adults sat glued to the screen and the horror of the change and the cage was having the effect she expected. When he shot the ware-bear they jumped out of their seats. A curse came from Grandpa's mouth. He slapped a hand over his mouth then said I'm sorry everyone. He sat back down as the men rolled a cage out and placed the bear in it.
Ren turned off the video and told her father and Grandpa that he then went into how to identify abnormals.
Jeremy rose and said, “I have to notify the ware community immediately. We also have to notify the leadership of VIP. This is bad. This is very bad. I think it's time for a plan.
Ren volunteered to notify the Wares. She was friends with the Alpha's daughter. “Dani is still in school and she is pretty shook up. She'll hold it together until she get home.”
“That's good Ren. Make the call and let Alpha know we are all concerned and will do what we can to help.”
“Will do Father.” She took her phone to the conference room and dialed Dani's home number.
“Alpha residence,” came the deep baritone voice over the speaker.
“I need to speak to Alpha please it's Ren, Dani's friend.”
The man on the other end said, “Alpha doesn't take calls from Vamps.” The tone of his voice was harsh.
Ren was getting angry at the peon standing in her way. “Listen you stupid dog I have news about a hunter in town and right now he has two wear-creatures in cages and I don't know how long it will be before Dani gets caught. Now patch me through before I show up there with my friends and we kick your foul smelling bottom up and down the river. Got it!”
There was silence for a few seconds then he said, “I apologize for my curtness. Let me get alpha for you.
Ren was feeling very empowered and thought she would add make it quick. But she thought better of it. After all it was adult time.
Alpha came on the phone. “Ren how are you, Dani's in school right now but I can tell her to call you when she gets home.”
“I know where Dani is Alpha. I called for you. I am at VIP and I have some bad news. The hunter showed up at school today with a ware-wolf. He has a video of the change. The a ware-bear attempted to free him but ended up getting shot with a tranquilizer dart and then loaded into another cage.”
Alpha listened intently then asked a series of questions. Ren answered them clearly and succinctly. When Alpha ran out of questions he asked about Dani.
“She is fine for now. They are only checking the students who leave early today. But who knows about tomorrow. I'm sorry to have to tell you this Alpha. Dani is my best friend and we both want relations between our peoples to be better than they are now.”
“Ren what you did today was brave. I'm proud of you and I'm happy to say you have done much to help our people. Did you have any trouble getting to me?”
“Well now that you mention it your call screener didn't want to connect me to you. But I yelled at him until he caved.”
Alpha laughed and said, “Have you got a pen? I'll give you my direct number. You can use it any time.”
“I got one, ready.”
Alpha gave her the number which she wrote down. As she was getting ready to end the call Father came in and asked if he could speak to Alpha.
“Alpha, my father Jeremy would like to speak with you if that would be alright.”
“That's fine Ren. I would love to speak to your father.”
“Thank you, here he is.” Ren handed the phone to her father.
“Alpha, Jeremy here. We have just had a meeting about the information Ren brought us. VIP has pledged any help you need. We would like to have a meeting with you as soon as possible.”
“Jeremy, first let me tell you about that daughter of yours. She is a credit to her race and her and Dani are doing much to quench the animosity between our peoples. She is very brave. As you know wear-creatures place family first in all things. You should be very proud of her.”
“I am Alpha and thanks for saying so. It means a lot coming from you.”
“That said your right we need to have a set down and make a plan for dealing with this situation. When can me and my number two meet with you and your leadership?”
“If you don't mind meeting at our offices we can do it any time you like.”
“We will be there in an hour. Jeremy, we are trusting you and Ren to be straight with us. If this is a trap it will mean war.”
“I assure you Alpha this is no trap. I pledge my life and the life of my daughter on it.”
“Thank you Jeremy. I'll see you soon.” Alpha ended the call.
Jeremy looked at Ren and said, “Ren, you made me very proud of you today.”
Grandpa added, “Yes Ren you acted like an adult today, we are all very proud.
