The were-wolf compound was nestled in the middle of four square miles of old growth forest. That's right four sections, two thousand five hundred sixty acres. A lone dirt road ran to the compound from the highway exit. It was rough going for a small car but for an SUV or large pickup is was just bumpy. When the vampires arrived they were escorted into the main hall. The meeting room was cleared with only six large folding tables setup in a “U” shape covered with white paper. Comfortable office chairs were lined up on the outside of the tables. In front of each chair on the table were yellow legal pads and pens. On each table was fruit basket and a large wine jug filled with some thick red liquid. Each place setting also had a wine goblet and a napkin with a fork and knife resting on top. Lastly there was a small plate at each setting, it was fired clay with silver overlay in the form of a band around the edge.
Alpha was nowhere to be seen but the vampires were lead to the table and asked to please take a seat. Number 2 was polite but everyone knew he was weary. Leader took one of the two chairs at the head table and the vampires followed suite and lined the same side of the tables. Within moments wolves entered the building. Within seconds they changed form and took seats on the other end of the table.
Leader leaned over to Jeremy on his right and said, “Nice show of force don't you think?”
“Yes Sir,” Jeremy responded still breathing hard. “I about turned to fight when they came in.”
Leader just smiled and said, “You're number two in this pack aren't you?”
“I am,” the man puffed up his chest and look down on the vampire leader.
“I'm glad to hear that. I was wondering who I should bring problems to the attention of.”
“I am the one to speak to. Is there a problem?” The other wolves were snickering. Number two gave a hard look at them and they silenced immediately.
“I'm afraid so. Would you come over here please?” As number two reached the vampire he said, “Would you hold out your hand please?” He honored the request and held out his hand. Leader reached for the silver rimmed plate and picked it up making sure his thumb was resting on the silver. He silently counted off three seconds to himself and then placed the plate in the wolf's hand. Without missing a beat Leader said, “This plate is dirty. May I please have another.”
Number two just looked at Leader in shock. He stumbled out the next few words. “RRR...Right away Sir.” Number two ran to the kitchen yelling at the staff for putting a dirty plate in front of a guest.
Jeremy looked at Leader and without saying a word he tipped his head.
Number two returned moment later with a fresh plate. Leader reached for it, took it and again silently counted three seconds before setting it down in front of him. Again he made sure his thumb was visibly on the silver again. Number two again in shock returned to his seat on the wolf side of the table.
Leader thanked him then leaned over to Jeremy again and said, “I think that is one point for our team. My thanks to Ren.” As if on que each vampire picked up their plates to supposedly look for dirty plates. After a three second examination they placed them back down on the table.
Some of the wolves grew angry and stood up quickly. The vampires just stayed seated. One of vampires seeing the wolves all jump in unison asked, “Did you guys see a rat?”
The other vampires did not laugh. Jeremy leaned over to Leader and said, “Make that two points.”
The wolves were starting to complain to Number two when Alpha walked in the room. “I apologize for the delay. I was getting the final recon photos from my team at the site.” Seeing his wolves standing in an offensive posture Alpha asked, “Is there a problem?”
Before the wolves could respond Leader spoke up. “It appears you have rats. All your wolves jumped when one ran under the table.”
Alpha gave the wolves a hard look that told them to sit down and behave. As he looked at the table he shouted, “What is the meaning of this? Number two answer.”
Number two cowered in front of an angry Alpha.
“You know our guests are allergic to silver. Why did you use these plates? I'm sorry Leader. It seems my wolves have too much time on their hands and want to play practical jokes. I hope none of you were hurt.”
“We are fine Alpha. Don't be too hard on them, after all emotions are high and they need some way to express their anger at having to work with vampires. I totally understand.”
“Well thank you for your understanding but I think they need another twenty hours a week of guard duty for each man for one month.” The wolves moaned but Alpha ignored them. Then Alpha looked directly at Number two. “You on the other hand know better. We are going to have a long talk and if I don't like what I hear we maybe selecting a new number two.” Addressing the group Alpha said, “Let's get this meeting started.” He sat and it was all business.
The final plan was simple. Someone would walk up to the gate and get the guards attention. Then a group of wolves and vampires will take control of the gate. They would then open the gates and twenty wolves and vampires will take control of the compound. The team at the gate will find and release the captives. Alpha and Leader will focus on Bronson.
"No one dies," Alpha announced. Everyone present nodded their heads. "Wolves, you can break bones incapacitate the enemy but it would be better if other than some cuts and bruises no one needs to go to the hospital. We don't want the entire town hunting us and if we can do this without bloodshed we won't look like the bad guys here."
Leader addressed the vampires, "You also will not kill. You will not bite any human. If your blood lust is starting to show go to the med truck and drink your fill before we attack."
"Actually Leader I thought of that and had these jugs filled with fresh blood. So please drink and enjoy. You're not the only one who has friends at the blood bank." Both men smiled as the vampires poured goblets full and drank deeply.
"So Jeremy," Leader asked, "Can Ren do the distracting for us? They won't shoot a child and they won't sound the alarm for a little girl. The vampires and the wolves of the gate team has orders to protect her with their life."
"I'll ask her, but the final decision is hers." Jeremy got up from the table and dialed her number.
Ren answered on the first ring, "Hello Father. I was just texting Dani."
"Ren we are going to hit the compound tonight. Alpha and Leader are asking if you would be willing to act as a diversion so we can take control of the gate. All you would have to do is walk up to the gate and talk to the guard asking what they are doing and such. Just keep him busy for a few seconds while the gate team blindsides them. What do you say?"
"I would love too. It sounds like great fun. Can I help inside?"
"As long as you stay with the gate team that is fine. But you have to follow orders and if they say stay you stay. Got it?"
"Yes Father. Grandpa is here with me do you want him to drive me out there?"
"That sounds great. Tell him we are meeting at the turnoff, mile marker Three hundred five, about two miles from the factory. He'll understand. You should leave now, we will be there in thirty minutes. Ren wear brightly colored clothes over a black Tee shirt and black jeans. We want them to see you coming. Then when your inside the compound you can remove the bright clothes so you will not be seen."
"OK Father. See you soon." Ren clicked off and told Grandpa what was going on.
While Ren changed he got the car from the garage and pulled it up to the front door. Ren jumped in the car and the two sped off to meet up with the team.
