Ren burst through the front door, sliding her backpack along the floor so it bumped the wall as it came to its final resting place. “Mother, I'm home.” Ren paused waiting for an answer. There was no sound. “Grandpa? You here?” Again no answer. Ren was starting to get worried and began searching the house. Lab, empty. Kitchen, empty. Living room, empty. She ran upstairs and started checking bedrooms. She ran from room to room. The panic was starting to show in her face and in her voice as she called out family members names. She then sat at the bottom on the stares and covered her eyes as the tears began to flow. Did Bronson get them? Did Father get caught up as well? I'm all alone now. What do I do? I should call VIC and report this. I'm going to wait till I get my act together. As she softly wept she felt something wet push against her hands. She dropped her hands andwas face to face with a pair of eyes, one blue, one brown. “Odin,” she cried out wrapping her arms around his neck. “I've never been so happy to see your mangy butt in my life. Looks like they took Mother and Grandpa. I'm worried, what do I do now?”
“That's easy Ren, you do your chores like your supposed to every day.”
Ren looked up in shock and saw her mother standing there. She lept from the stairs to her mothers neck and held on for dear life.
Grandpa walked around the corner and saw the hug Ren was giving her mother. “I hope you got some of that for me?”
“Of course I do,” loosing one arm from the hug she was giving her mother and held her arm out for Grandpa to step into the waiting embrace.
Grandpa stepped forward and let Ren clamp the arm around his neck as well. “Ren, what's wrong?”
“I came home and no one was here. I searched the house and then I guess I panic got the best of me. I'm so glad you two are all right.”
Grandpa smiled, “Of course we are sweet-pea.”
Mother piped up, “You don't have to worry about us. Your Grandpa and I can take care of ourselves.”
“I know,” Ren said. “I just jumped to conclusions. I have some news. Should I called father?” Ren released both of them and wiped the tears from her check. As she sniffed the stuff running from her nose her mother spoke up.
“Your father left word and a special phone number for you too call.” Mother reached into her apron pocket and pulled out a yellow post-it-note. She handed the paper to Ren and said, “make sure you use your encrypted phone to call. The house line might be bugged but your phone is un-hackable.”
“Thank you Mother.” Ren took the phone and headed to the study to make her call.
“VIC this is Jeremy.”
“Father?”
“Yes Ren it's me. Tell me how school went.”
Ren launched into a complete tale of the trip to Bronson's office. How she fooled Bronson into believing she wasn't hurt by silver.
Jeremy interrupted, “You brushed your hand across the silver plate on the chair?”
“Ya, if you keep the contact to less than three seconds it only gets warm and won't burn you. Didn't you know that?”
“Ren. Vampires don't play with silver. It can kill you.”
“Well I hope you won't be made but I found a silver spoon last year and have it in my room. I have been practicing with it for months and I can move it anywhere in the room now without getting hurt. It sure came in handy today.”
“I'm glad it did Ren but you need to be careful.”
Ren continued talking about the pass she got for herself and Dani.
Jeremy interrupted her again. “That is great work sweet-pea. It's sure more than we expected. Do you know what they plan to do next?”
“Father, if you're going to interrupted me every minute I am never going to get this report done.”
Jeremy smiled and snorted a laugh over the phone. “Ok honey you keep talking. I'll just listen and keep my questions until the end.”
“Thank you,” Ren said in a huff. She went on to share the testing that will be done on all students starting tomorrow. Then she dropped the big bomb. “One last thing Father. Guess what I got? I know where they are.”
“Where who are sweet-pea?”
“Bronson and his men and the people they have captured.”
Jeremy just shook his head. “Why did I ever doubt you Ren. Of course you know where their camp is. Tell me.”
Ren explained the location of the camp and the basic layout. I got the info from Dennis. He went there after they realized he was human. He managed to get McDonald’s out of them for slamming him into his desk.
“Ren we have had people searching all day and night and we couldn't find them. You go to school one day and get us all the info we wanted. I am so proud of you my little spy.”
“Thank you Father. But I can get more. Just let me keep going and I'll get you everything including their shoe size.”
“Let's not get cocky but you can continue to gather information as long as you are careful. I need to speak with Leader and Alpha about what you learned today. I'll be home late again tonight so tell you mother not to hold dinner for me.”
“Will do, Secret Agent Ren 009.5 over and out.” Ren clicked off and went to tell her mother about father being late.
