"What in the world is this?!" My dad shouted, shoving his phone in my face

I blinked and tried to focus on what was on the screen.

It was the video about Oak. My heart was racing. He wasn't supposed to find out like this. I thought he would be furious, but instead he looked sad.
"Why didn't you tell us? Your mother is crying in her bedroom at the moment. We need to take you to a therapist as soon as possible."

Wait what? Why would she be crying? Why would I need to go to a therapist?

"Why is she crying?" I decided to ask

"You have a mental disorder, Maddie."

This made every part of my body boil. How dare he say that??

"Would you say that if I was gay?" I asked in a low tone

"No! 'Objectum sexuality' isn't even a sexuality! It's a serious mental illness. "

I didn't have a mental illness! Oak loved me back.

"I'm not alone on this, Madelyn. Just look up your "sexuality" and see what comes up! Go on, do it!"

He left the room, slamming the door. As soon as he was out, I snapped open my computer. I angrily typed in the search bar. The first website that came up said :

"In objectum sexuality the emphasis is not in fact on 'sexuality' at all (thus it is distinct from fetishism) as while the individual may be sexually attracted to the object, they also have strong feelings of love and commitment toward it. Generally those suffering with objectum sexuality believe the object to hold reciprocal feelings and to love them back, while in some extreme cases they may also find it difficult to understand 'normal' relationships between humans. Objectum sexuality can also be referred to as 'object sexuality' and those who experience the feelings may be referred to as 'objectophiles' or 'OS people'. "

Fetishism?

I went into YouTube and clicked on the first video that popped up. As I watched it, I felt normal again. These people were just like me. But the narration said that something was wrong with them. Nothing was wrong with me. Nothing.

Was there?

'What's my opinion on this?' , I hear nobody ask.

Well nobody, I'm on her Dad's side on this🤷🏻‍♀️.  Just because I'm writing from Maddie's perspective doesn't mean I agree. I'm just writing down from her point of view.
