The main WICKED building comes up fast, my heart pounding with fear and adrenaline. I make my way up the stairs, running through the door into the only lab with its lights on. Everything in me is praying that I'm not too late and that Thomas is still alive.
I slowly creep through the lab, making my way toward voices at the end of the hall. They come into full view, a chill running down my whole body at the sight of Ratman. Quickly hiding behind a wall, I squeeze my eyes shut and take a deep breath.
"I can do this," I whisper to myself, opening my eyes and peeking out from behind the wall.
Thomas is strapped to a testing table, my eyes widening at the sight. He's unconscious but he seems to still be breathing, breath of relief leaving my lips. Teresa stands at one of the lab tables, tubes in her hands as she mixes a serum.
"Hurry up Teresa! He's almost awake." Janson barks, his face bright red.
"It will be ready soon," Teresa says, her voice level and calm.
She's always so good at staying calm when everyone around her is panicking. Part of me wishes I could be like that.
"Not soon enough," Janson hisses, his teeth clenched.
She makes her way to Thomas with a syringe, sticking the needle in his arm, deep red blood pouring into the plastic as she pulls the plunger upward. My eyes widen in fear, that can't be the amount of blood she's taking for just one sample of serum. That tube is huge and it looks way too big for just one vial.
There's no way she's trying to make enough to save others...
I shake my head as I look down for a moment, a sigh leaving my lips. As I look back up just as Thomas' eyes flutter open, his head shifting in place as he looks around, his eyes landing on mine. I immediately bring my finger to my lips as his eyes widen, I can't afford him giving me away, especially while I still have the element of surprise.
Thomas looks down at his arm as his eyes drag away from mine. Hurt washes over his face as he looks to Teresa, her eyes matching his. She pulls the syringe out, putting her head down as she walks away from the brunette boy.
"Do you know what this place is Thomas?" Janson asks as he turns around from the outside window, his face pale. My breath hitches in my throat, it looks just like Newt's did when he was close to The Gone. "It's a lifeboat. The world might be sinking, but that doesn't mean we have to go down with it."
Thomas struggles against the restraints, his face turning bright red as he does. "Why don't you just kill me?" He asks, his eyes following the Ratman, my eyes widening in shock.
Don't give the finchface ideas...
Janson lets out a grotesque laugh mixed with a cough. "Kill you? You really think I want to kill you." He smirks as he takes steps closer to Thomas. "No, I don't want to do that. I'm gonna take special care of you, so you can keep us all alive."
Thomas struggles against the restraints again, his hands turning to fists as he glares at Janson.
"But of course, there won't be enough for everyone. We'll have to pick the people most dear to us to save." He slurs, his words soft and smooth. "The ones who truly deserve it. Like, I don't know, Sandy."
What?! Why me? I'm immune!
"Sandy's immune dickface," Thomas says, anger and annoyance filling his voice.
