The four of us run through the city, dodging guards by sliding in between alleyways anytime one comes near us.
"Okay guys," Newt says, his breathing starting to sound heavy and thick with mucus. "I need a moment."
We slide down behind a cement planter, Minho and Thomas helping Newt take a seat. His leg has gotten worse since the boys came back, I'm worried that it's going to be the thing that prevents us from getting him that serum.
A coughing fit breaks from Newt's lips, blood spraying alongside a thick black mucus that looks too much like molasses. Fear grows heavy in my chest, my eyes going wide as they move to Minho, he returns the look, his eyes moving down to Newt.
"How're you feeling buddy?" Minho asks as I help Newt unbutton his uniform's top.
"Terrible." Newt pants, putting his hand on Minho's shoulder. "I'm glad to see you though."
A smile breaks out on my lips, relief flowing through my chest. He might actually be okay. Especially now that he has Minho back. He has something to fight for again.
The heat of the city causes sweat to build up under my jacket, beading on the back of my neck, my hair matting to it. I rip off the thing and toss it to the side, being left in only my tank top, earning a soft smirk from Minho, my eyes rolling as a soft laugh leaves my lips.
Minho and I leave Thomas and Newt alone, letting Thomas help Newt, the two boys going into a conversation. I plop down next to Minho on the concrete, my head resting on his shoulder, his resting on mine.
"What did we get ourselves into," I say, sighing.
Minho lets out a humorless scoff, nodding his head in agreement. "At least I have you back now." He says, his arm moving to rest around my waist.
I look up at his deep brown eyes, affection flowing through them as they look at me. An affectionate smile grows heavy on my lips. I gently rest my hand on his cheek, feeling him lean into it. "I love you Minho," I say, looking between his eyes.
His smile grows brighter, a small excited giggle flowing from his lips. "I love you more, Sandy." Another giggle leaves his lips as he pulls me closer, causing me to let out a small laugh as I place my hand on his chest. "Man, it feels so good to say that out loud!"
"Tell me about it," I laugh, resting my head on Minho's shoulder. "I've been wanting to tell you that for months now."
"Guys, we gotta go!" Gally says, Minho and I looking over at him, my chest starting to squeeze with fear at what's behind him.
Guards are pouring out from every building, all of them with launchers and guns, a few with some weird-looking cannons. What the hell are those things?! They look like long black bazookas.
I do not want to know what it feels like to get hit by the thing that comes out of there!
Minho rushes to Newt's side, helping Thomas lift him off the ground. Fear and worry mix together my chest likes hot, thick goo as his head lulls forward for a moment, moving back up only a minute later.
We need to get that serum.
"Alright," Gally says, cocking his launcher. "Let's get going."
I grab my launcher, cocking it, and following the boys as they run off into the city. We rush through the alleyways, Gally stopping to make sure no one is in front of us, I watch the back and make sure no one is following us. Thankfully they haven't exactly been looking out for us now that Lawrence's men are waltzing about.
