Chapter 2

-Day 1 Part 2-

"Hey Chels, could you help? I don't know how to do this," Cory whined, tapping my shoulder.

I turned to help him and after that, he whispered into my ear," Thanks! Now I'm not surprised why Stanley Tideson has a secret crush on you."

What?

"Stanley Tideson?" I asked, gripping the sides of the table.

"Yeah. The one and only Stanley Tideson."

"He likes me?" I double-confirmed.

"Yeah. He told me that he thinks you're cute. Such a pity he couldn't ask you to go with him to the prom."

"Oh?" I lifted a brow. "Why?"

He sighed and answered," Last year, he promised Kimberly Distance that he would go with her to the prom the next year. I feel so sorry for you."

I shrugged. There wasn't much I could do anyway.

"It shows that Stanley is a man of his word, doesn't it?" Cory tilted his head to look at me.

I nodded. Yeah. It was true.

The bell for the next period rang and the scraping of chairs on floors could be heard.

"Pass your worksheets to the front before you leave," Mrs Thompson said.

Oh no!

Cory and I were talking so much that we didn't do our work.

The both of us sheepishly walked up to the front with worksheets in hand and apologised to Mrs Thompson.

"Sorry..." we muttered after telling her why we didn't finish the work.

She glared at us and said," Next time, you'll get two demerit points."

Whew. That was it.

Cory and I nodded and we went out of the classroom.

"What are you having for the next period?" he asked.

"Geography," I answered. "You?"

"Design and Technology. I'll see you again the next English lesson!" he waved goodbye and walked off to the D&T workshop.

I waved back and went to the geography classroom.

I totally forgot that Stanley was in the same geography class as me.

Without looking ahead of where I was going, I bumped into Stephanie Lorrison, a kind, gentle, and well-liked girl by the whole school.

"Oops! I'm so sorry, Steph," I apologised, my face getting red.

"That's alright. You didn't bump into me on purpose anyway," she smiled kindly.

I smiled back and quickly made the way to my desk without getting into anyone else's way.

I settled down just as Mr Hykes, the geography teacher came in.

"Alright class, take out your textbooks and start reading page 31 of it," he instructed in the same firm voice he always used.

The class did as told and we started reading.

Suddenly, I felt this weird feeling like someone was looking at me. Not daring to look, I tried to focus my mind on the textbook.

However, I couldn't shun that feeling away. It was a terrible feeling.

"Has everyone finished reading?" Mr Hykes asked.

Those who were done looked up. Although I wasn't done, I looked up too.

"Chelsene," he said.

"Yes Mr Hykes?"

"Since you have finished reading the page, let me ask you a very simple question."

"Why do people cut trees down?"

"They want to clear the land so that they can have the space to build things on it."

He nodded, looking satisfied. As he continued, I got that same strange feeling again.

This time, I had the guts to turn back and check who was spying on me.

I saw a boy quickly turning his head back to the direction of the teacher.

After taking a good look at the boy, I thought to myself, perhaps, I shouldn't have turned back.

You could have guessed who it was.

That's right.

The one and only, Stanley Tideson.

I felt so embarrassed during the entire period and was definitely relieved when it ended. I dashed out of the classroom not wanting to look back.

When I reached the maths classroom, I went over to Carrie.

"Carrie, you won't believe what happened during english and geography just now."

"Talk later, girl. Concentrate for now."

I couldn't.

Finally, school ended.

"Let's go shop for our prom dresses!" Carrie squealed.

I nodded and walked out of the school gates with her. As I was telling Carrie about the incidents that happened during geography and english lesson, I felt someone tap my shoulder.

I whirled around to see Cory looking down at me.

"Hey. Where are you girls going? Can I join you?"

"I thought you were with your friends. You know, Kristen might not like it if her date hangs out with other girls," I answered.

"But we ain't dating. Anyway, she doesn't mind. She hangs out with my friends too."

"Okay then. If anything happens, it's gonna be your responsibility," Carrie said jokingly, jabbing a finger at his forehead.

"So where are we going?" Cory asked, following the both of us like a shadow.

"Carrie and I are going downtown to get a dress each for the prom. You could give comments on the dresses we choose," I said.

"Sounds good to me. Let's go there via a taxi," Cory said, running after one.
