“8 months already? Holy cow.”
Maddie more excited about the baby than I am.
We were in my room picking out baby names that we liked. So far for boys we have Mason, Declan, Jasper, and Holden. For girls we have Avery, Sadie, and Molly.
We sat there in silence for awhile. I looked down at my stomach and I couldn’t come to terms with my thoughts.
“This is all becoming to real.”
Maddie gave me a reassuring smile and we continued to clip coupons from baby store ads.
“Do you think she’ll need a pink cow print spoon?”
She said pointing to the $70 spoon. That’s Maddie for you, always trying to make a joke.

Maddie left and my mom was out with some friends, so I was stuck at home. I flipped the channels on the T.V. impatiently when I heard a knock at the door.
I walked over to the door and my heart skipped a beat. Zach.
“May I help you?”
“Can we talk?” he pleaded.
Even though I was reluctant I motioned for him to come in.
“Take a seat I guess.” I mumbled.
“How are you?”
“Fine.” I said plainly.
“Grace” he took my hand, but I pulled back.
“Grace, please look at me. I know it was wrong for me to be so rude earlier. I want to make it up to you. Please take this.”
He held out a check for $10,000.
“I don’t want your money Zach.” I pushed it away.
“Well what do you want?”
“For you to leave”
I lied. I want nothing more than for Zach to say he wants the baby. I want him to hug me. I want him to cuddle with me. I want his attention. I want him.
“Fine, but at least tell me when the baby is due.”
“December 10th” I spit out.
“That’s my birthday”
He sounded overjoyed.
“To bad my baby won’t ever know you, so why do it matter?”
“What?”
I pushed the very confused Zach Porter out the door.
