Serenity's POV

"So, how did you meet Lord Vera?" Stephanie asked as she twirled her hair in her fingers. She was nervous, and then again so was I because I didn't want her to hate me. We were in the room that I woke up in and I was sitting up against the headboard while she was sitting in the chair where the Lord was sitting.

"I was helping a little girl who had fallen over on the road, she had cut her knee badly. I got her up and was about to walk to the pavement when a horse and carriage were speeding their way towards us. I knew I had to make a decision. Me or both of us. So I pushed the girl onto the pavement and the hooves of the horses dug into my back creating deep cuts. I passed out almost instantly. Then for some unknown reason, I was brought here. I'm still trying to pry the information out of him but to no avail is it working. I'm sorry, I guess I'm boring you and I don't wish to be a burden upon your shoulders." I admitted how I felt and I wasn't sure how she would take it. I hoped it go well but I just don't know. I'm lost in a world where people are either cruel, kind or a mixture.

"Oh no, your not a burden. It's just that I've always thought that the Lord would want to bring women for sexual desires. The story you told me, is an act of selflessness. You have been through so much pain, I can see it in your eyes and so can the Lord. He's very good at reading people's eyes. Your eyes are a very pretty shade of blue. I like it. However, deep inside I can see the pain that you've been through. Life must have been cruel to you." I wasn't sure how to take it so I just spoke what was on my mind.

"Oh no, life hasn't been cruel to me. Yes, it was hard but I like to think of it more as a challenge because any homeless person's life is difficult." She gasped and I couldn't tell if it was good or bad.

"You were homeless?" She almost yelled but tried to keep it in as much as possible.

"I am. Something happened in my childhood that I prefer not to speak about. It's the thing that resulted in me being homeless." She leaned closer, intrigued by my backstory and I was genuinely surprised. No one ever really cared to hear my side of the story.

"What about your townspeople, did they not help you?" She asked getting more enticed in finding out about my past. I shook my head.

"They gave me all they could but they were struggling themselves. You see, our town had a leader who took everything for himself. Even though it's hard, I appreciate every little thing that they've given me." She understood and smiled kindly at me.

We began to talk about our interests as we slowly started to get to know each other. We felt more comfortable and I was glad that she didn't hate me. She was talking about her personal life in front of me and how she became a maid to Lord Vera. I also told her stuff about me like how I don't like shopping or people buying me things. She says that I am so selfless since I didn't want to speak about myself and I complimented her a lot. She was very beautiful and I would date her if I was not straight. However, I just prefer men. I just haven't found the right one.

She had spent her whole life in the palace since birth. Her mother was one of the top maids for the kingdom working there for little over twenty years. It wasn't a surprise to hear that she had fallen in love with one of the royal guards at the time who happens to be Stephanie's father. Once they were married with the blessing of his royal highness. They settled down and had a child. Stephanie.

She didn't start her maid duties until the age of sixteen to ensure that she had a chance at a decent education.

If she had wanted to, Stephanie could progress onto a higher job but appreciated the role of a maid to the king. That's why she stayed and I'm so glad she did because it meant that I got to meet her.
