Stephanie's PoV

As the guards helped me to walk back to my room, I felt concern wash over me. I was concerned for Serenity. She was only beginning to trust the king and now this happens. It was like adding salt to a healing wound.

I just pray that she's okay because the last I knew, she was falling unconscious. I'm scared that death will take her at any moment. She's become one of my closest friends. I can't lose her too.

I couldn't help but worry because she's been through so much and didn't need any of this as well. I just pray that she doesn't stop fighting for her life and that she has the strength to wake up. I know for sure, that there is a connection between her and the king. The way they comfort each other and make each other smile is heartwarming.

As we were walking down the corridor, I felt the adrenaline wear off and I almost fell over if it weren't for the two guards holding me up.

With each step, it just continuously got worse until I couldn't walk any further. I just fully fell on the floor.

"Woah, are you okay?" I looked up to see a god.

It was like he was sculpted to perfection. How can anyone be this handsome? His short brown hair swept to the side, looking effortless but he rocked the look. His blue eyes were the kind of eyes that you could stare into all day and never get bored. His defined jawline made me want to reach over and see if it was actually real but I held myself back.

"Miss? Are you okay?" I came out of the trance I was in and smiled at him.

"I apologise, sir. I wasn't thinking straight but yes I'm okay. Thank you." I tried getting up but my legs just gave out from beneath me. Instead of falling to the floor like before, I was caught in the arms of the mystery man. I looked up to see him frown.

"Not if you can't walk. Here let me help you." The guards tried to argue but he held his hand up and they just submitted to his gesture. I frowned in complete confusion. Who was this man?

I doubt he likes me. Probably just feels bad for the fact that I can't walk.

"What's your name, darling?" I almost swooned in his arms as he calls me an endearment. I blush profoundly as he looks me in the eyes.

"Stephanie, sir," I replied avoiding his intense gaze and instead looking at my hands which were clasped together in a loose grip.

"Please, call me Eldon. Eldon Wellfielde." I gasped and squirmed in his arms, trying to get out of his grip.

This can't be happening.

"Woah love, calm down. What's wrong?" I shook my head trying to get out of his arms. Eventually, he couldn't hold me and tried to, as gently as he could, put me on my feet. He held me steadily so I wasn't going to fall. I just wanted to get as far away as I could but his firm grip on my shoulders wouldn't let me.

Is this what Serenity felt like when the king told her who he was? When he told her of his true identity.

I just don't understand his actions. Why would he want to marry me? I'm just a maid. No one special. Worst of all, I'm injured. I can't even walk through the castle properly.

"Please tell me what's wrong?" He uses his spare hand to tilt my head up so that I was looking into his intense stare.

I felt as if I had stopped breathing. It was as if my soul was no longer inside me. I felt like it poured out of my body and was now floating around us.

"I... i..." I stuttered. I've never felt anything like this before. It was all too much.

I couldn't explain it.
