Serenity POV
I woke up due to yelling and screaming. It was something that I had become accustomed to so I didn't panic because my parents did this all the time. This time, however, was slightly louder so I decided to check it out. I knew the reason for their constant arguments. My parents have cheated on each other so many times that I was kind of used to it. I've seen men and women come into the house only to leave looking like they've been dragged through a hedge.
It was only time before something major happens.
I headed downstairs slowly to see my parents standing up face to face only inches away from each other. I was hiding behind one of the bannisters with my head just poking out. Their eyes glared into the soul of the other like it was the devil. Father was worse, his face was red as if steam would come off at any point. His hands clenched almost as if to refrain himself from choking her.
"YOUR SUCH A W*O*E, THAT DAUGHTER ISN'T MINE. WHOSE HER FATHER, CAITLYN? ANDREW? SHAWN? DERMIT?" My father yells and even I jump. He's never gone that loud before but then again this is the closest that I've got to the argument. At this rate, his voice could wake the whole town up.
What did he mean that I wasn't his? My mum didn't start cheating until I was ten.
Yeah, I'm not dumb. I know all about the birds and the bees.
He sounded frustrated with my mum and at that moment grabbed her by the collar of her shirt only to slam her body against the closest wall. She whimpers in pain as I notice blood seeping down the wall.
She's injured.
She falls to the floor after the impact. The blood smearing a long red streak down the wall.
"She is your daughter, Evan. You can even do a DNA test to prove it. She's yours alright? Please, whatever happens, don't hurt her. She's been through a lot. I know that we've cheated on each other but we need to make things work for her sake and I know you are not comfortable with that but please she's fourteen. Let her have a happy childhood. We will tell her when she's old enough to understand." She tries to appease him but that made my father's anger grow and his fists clenched tightly almost to the point of drawing blood. My mother didn't know that I knew everything already. It's too late now.
My father lifts my mother by her hair which made me wince as I know it hurts a lot. He practically growls in her face and throws her to the other side of the room.
"It's your fault that it had to come to this. I wouldn't have cheated if you could do your job properly. What's your excuse huh?" He spat in her face, yelling aggressively.
Mum looked tired and I genuinely thought she was gonna pass out but she's so much stronger than that. That's why I admire her. She's my rock.
Just when I thought it was over he straight out punched her in the jaw and I heard a cracking noise. I didn't like the sound of that.
Her nose was gushing blood and looked slightly crooked.
That's when I knew. Enough is enough.
He tried to swing again but this time I blocked him before he could lay a single finger on her.
He stopped only missing me by a couple of inches. It was such a close call.
He tried pushing me out of the way but I retaliated.
"NOOOO!!!!!" I yelled and threw my arms over my mother. They both looked up at me with wide eyes, they had been caught and so had I.
"Serenity, you shouldn't be down here. You should be asleep. Go back to bed darling." My mother says calmly as if she hadn't been punched in the face. I looked at her face. It was red and swollen. He had never gotten this violent before and frankly I was terrified. Would he do that to me?
