Destiney's POV:
"Hurry up, you slowpoke!" Soley turned to face me with a smile as I followed behind.
"I'm trying!" I said in a frustrated tone. All of this running started to make me worn out- and honestly, I don't think I'll make it to the gas station alive.
"Oh, come on! You want those snacks, don't you?" She began to slow her pace, eventually turning around and walking back to me.
I stopped running immediately, trying to catch my breath. Soley chuckled in return. "Are you okay?"
I slowly looked up at her in annoyance. "Oh, I'm just fine! You know, catching my breath, feeling like I'm gonna pass out, no big deal!" I began making big hand gestures.
She rolled her eyes and smiled in return.
"Fine. Did you want me to just get the snacks on my own?" She looked around a bit, before continuing. "You can just wait for me at that bench over there." She offered, indicating with her finger towards a small, crimson bench.
My eyes widened as I tried to go back to my regular standing position, as if I was never out of breath in the first place. It was at this moment that something inside me had just ignited, as if the thing itself was determined to get what it wanted. "No, no!" I said, making hand gestures once more "I want to go with you"
I froze at my own words. How could I say something like that? I shouldn't have said that! I could've said anything but that! I mean, I wanted to rest on the bench, right? Is it weird that I want to go with her? Does she even want to walk with me? What if she-
Wait, why am I getting so nervous over six words again?
I snapped back into reality, seeing Soley shrug. "Well, okay then. Are you feeling better though?"
I nodded in response and she glanced at her phone. "We should hurry. I have to go home in about an hour so..." She slowly averted her gaze to me "Wanna race again?" She smirked whilst I groaned.
"But I don't-"
"Oh, come on! I'll help you out this time!" Without warning, she grabbed my hand.
I began to sweat in some form of nervousness. She began to run, forcefully dragging me after her. She's holding my hand. SHE'S HOLDING MY HAND. My heart rate starts picking up more just thinking about it. Totally not because we are running, y'know?
Forget about me saying I was ever tired at all.
As of now, it just feels as if everything is in slow motion. Soley's hand is still tightly holding on to mine, as she turns around and flashes me a smile. Again, her smile. Why did her smile have to be so captivating? And her hand, so soft that I could hold it for hours on end.
As I smile back, my legs start to feel like jelly, and before I know it, I'm sprawled out on the floor, face first. I tripped. Of course.
Still laying on the floor, I flip myself over onto my back. Almost immediately, she sets her gaze on me, trying to hold back a laugh. I send her a playful glare before extending my arm out, as a request to be helped up.
She grabs me by the hand, and instead of allowing her to help me up, I pull her down with me. Eye to eye, with her on top of me, I get a sudden surge of confidence and I feel a growing smirk spread across my face.
"It appears you just fell for me." I say, not thinking. Soley rolled her eyes.
"Haha, very funny" As soon as she finished her sarcastic remark, she stood back up, unhesitantly leaving me on the ground.
"Hey, wait for me!" I begin to sit up, eventually making my way to my standing position again and running after Soley.
After falling in line with her, it took less than two minutes to arrive at our destination. Finally, I was really craving some Sour Patch Kids.
"That took much longer than I had anticipated." Soley remarks.
I nod my head in acknowledgement, before looking down at the small pink watch that is constantly enclosed around my wrist.
"It's 4:35. That leaves us twenty five more minutes to get snacks and to get you home. No rush. Kinda." I finish, trailing off.
Soley nodded slowly, clearly beginning to keep to herself. We are already inside the gas station, searching for snacks, silently.
"So, uh, you like Jolly Ranchers?" I inquire in attempt to slice the awkward silence.
Soley glances up at me and just shrugs. She was fine a second ago? Even after I made my really smooth, thought out pick-up line. I mean, my unexpected strange burst of confidence statement.
I begin to regret pulling Soley on top of me, for two reasons. For one, she became evidently uncomfortable, which sucks. And two, it made me realize something. I've known her for a year and a half now, and have never seen her as more than anything than a friend. That's no longer the case, it seems.
I like Soley. Like, like-like her.
