Jewels groaned as she woke up.
For some reason unknown to herself, her body automatically woke itself up at 5 am. She peeled away the warmth of her covers, sending a shiver down her body as she sat up on the edge of her bed in silence for several minutes, hating her body's clock. Finally she yawned before rubbing the tiredness from her eyes and dragged herself to the bathroom. She went through her usual school routine before heading to the kitchen.
Jewels poured herself a bowl of cereal, feeling like she just rose from the dead. She was definitely not a morning person but her body never seemed to get the message. After finishing her breakfast, she quickly washed her bowl and scampered back up the stairs in no mood to wake Amelia.
Jewels listened to the muffled noises of the TV as she sat by the coffee table, doodling on a nearby piece of paper, and she waited for her caretaker to wake up. When Amelia still wasn't awake at 6 am, she sighed and went downstairs. She knew only one way to wake her up without being yelled at. Jewels slunk down the stairs quietly and slipped into the living room.
She went straight to the corner with the piano. The woman that looked after her before Amelia, Melody, had been aptly named and loved music. She would always play songs on the piano for the much younger girl at the time. Jewels always loved the soft melodies from the instrument- it always hugged her ears in some sort of way. She was inspired by Melody's adroit abilities in piano, so naturally she tried to master the piano like her caretaker had. But she could never hold the motivation to practice.
Despite this she did recorder karate at school for music. As they moved through instruments, she found that she really liked the violin and played alongside Melody and her piano. Amelia always became giddy with joy as she would either softly sway to melody or inadvertently clap her little hands in anticipation. Jewels always became bashful and embarrassed by her caretaker's excitement and appraisal, so she better be counting her lucky stars that she's waking her up in a more peaceful way than maybe clashing cymbals or something. That would be way more fun.
Jewels gave a soft sigh and started playing.
She hummed lightly and shut her eyes as if she was deep thought. She almost didn't notice her mind playing the piano part of the song becoming reality as she reopened her eyes and spotted Amelia at the piano playing along.
Jewels nearly smiled at the sight.
When the song was finally over, the two of them basked in the silence for several long moment. Finally Amelia spoke up.
"Kiss the Rain?" she inquired.
"It was Melody's favorite. We always played it together once I could play properly." Jewels divulged a small aspect of her life. Despite taking care of her for three years, Amelia could hardly get anything out of the girl about what she lived like before.
Jewels was a fairly private person, ever since Melody died when she was twelve, Jewels avoided playing her music too openly. It was her way of keeping music a special thing she did with Melody.
"I see you're ready to go already." Amelia acknowledged her dressed state. Jewels merely shrugged. "Why don't you head on out. Your friends will be awake soon and if you leave now you'll have time to stop for coffee." she suggested.
Jewels simply nodded before carefully replacing her violin in the case. Before she left, Jewels hesitated, her green eyes flickering with indecision. Finally she seemed to come to a conclusion and she glanced up.
"...I wouldn't mind playing again tomorrow." she muttered loud enough her Amelia to hear. The red panda perked up. "I mean, if you want to- you don't have to uh..." Her mind began to sink deeper and deeper in indecision and the possibilities of regret.
