Lyna buried her face in her paws as James and Chika laughed.
It had been two weeks since her realization that she was crushing on Jewels and she had just finally mustered the courage to tell her friends. Who were now laughing their rear ends off because it had (apparently) been more obvious than the fact that water makes you wet.
Lyna had no problem with the idea of pursuing Jewels. In fact, after the initial shock she'd admitted to be being rather curious about how the relationship could go. She'd fantasized for several minutes about dating Jewels spanning from possible dating attractions, to pet names, and even possible fights. There was only problem that kept coming up.
Lyna was the most awkward girl to step foot on Earth when it came to romance.
She cringed just thinking about all of the embarrassing things she'd done trying to impress her last crush. She very distinctly remembered managing to fall up the stairs trying to talk to her.
Lyna figured she might have to put 911 on standby just in case she needed a trip to the emergency room.
Finally James snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Right, let's call it Operation: Impress Jewels." He said proudly making it all too clear Lyna had definitely missed something.
Chika nodded eagerly turning to Lyna.
"We're going to help you win her." She said happily.
Lyna abruptly felt the overwhelming urge to race from this quaint town at the speed of light all the way to Antarctica- she thought her thick fur would protect her enough from the harsh winter elements.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Lyna shuffled uncomfortably as they crouched on top of a hill.
She was wearing knee pads, a helmet, and elbow pads. A couple feet away, a skateboard rested innocently next to a tree.
Chika had asked what she thought was 'cool' so she blurted out the first thing that came to mind.
Skateboarding.
After all, it was what cool kids in the movies did.
When this was confirmed, they quickly went to James' house and got a bunch skateboarding equipment from when he was 12. Lyna's stomach was already tied in an irreversible knot.
The plan was to skateboard past Jewels in an attempt to show off some skill. The worst part of the the idea was that Lyna had never actually set foot on a skateboard.
"There she is!" James called excitedly.
"Quick get on!" Chika urged.
Lyna quickly climbed on the skateboard wobbling a little as she fought to keep her balance.
"Go!" James and Chika shouted eagerly.
Lyna pushed off as best as she could. It wasn't too hard actually. All she had to do was lean to control her direction. Then just as she was going to pass Jewels, she realized she didn't know a really important detail: how to stop.
Lyna panicked as she tried to figure out how to go about stopping the skateboard before Newton's First law asserted itself.
Objects in motion, stay in motion and objects at rest, stay at rest unless acted upon by an outside force.
Lyna yelped and before she could react, she ended up headfirst in an open trashcan. She flailed around for a few minutes before she felt the trashcan tip over.
