1- To the Rescue

"Z you're being ridiculous Nate is going to die the second his precious baby blues land on you, I can promise you that babes" Nova says finishing up her red lipstick as I purse my lips.

Staring at myself in the mirror I try to pull down the black dress, it reaches mid-thigh, "Don't you even dare" she warns walking past me into my closet, "I would kill to have legs like yours. Long, tan and sexy" she mutters the last part under her breath as I snicker.

"Nova, I don't want this Noah–"

"Nate!"

"Right, Nate guy to get the wrong impression of me."

"Z you're drop dead gorgeous, you haven't been out since your freak ex, and Elijah didn't wanna leave Nate alone, he just went through a really rough breakup" she says biting her lower lip at the last part.

"So, I'm just a freaking rebound Nova?! What the heck" I stammer staring back at her.

"No, no sweetie, when Nate sees you he will forever forget about any girl he ever dated" I bit my lower lip and sighed walking over to my desk and grabbing my clutch.

"You know I'm just going because you promised me Chick-Fil-A for a whole month" It was her turn to sigh as she turns to turn off my closet light.

"I know, I know. Just don't mention it to Elijah and Nate" she laughed "You're going to have a blast, have a guy gawk at you as you're your best friends wing woman, tonight will be one for the books" she said as I grudgingly agreed following her out of my room. I furrow my eyebrows hearing a bunch of 'shhh's' as our heels echo down the hallway.

I stop Nov and look at her wide eyed, "It's okay Z, their stench gave it away."

"Huh?"

"Don't you guys know better than to break into her apartment you freaks!" she began shouting down the hall in their direction.

"We wanted to surprise you girls!" I heard Daniel say as I walked into the room, "God damn!" he shouted as he stared at me, three more pairs of eyes land on me.

I nervously laugh and bite my lip, not being able to take their stares.

"Looks like Z decided to surprise us instead, God Damn!" Beau howled as I felt my face turn bright red.

"That's it I'm changing" I say as I turn to walk back into my room.

"No, you don't, remember keep your eyes on the prize, free Chick-Fil-A for a month, come on Z I really like Elijah" she persuaded as Luke laughed out loud.

"You're bribing her with FOOD?! That is so her!" he continued to laugh as my front door opened and in walked my brother.

"Hey guys I got the foo– what the hell are you wearing!?" he asked as I pointed to Nova.

"No, the real question is why the hell are you guys gawking at her so much?! We're wearing the same dress, just different colors."

"Nova honey, you dress like this on the regular, you give us the privilege to gawk at you daily" Beau sweet talks her as Luke pretends to puke in the background.

"Thanks Beau" she gives him a flash of her pearly whites, "And shut it you mutt" she directs her attention to Luke as he rolls his eyes.

They're complicated, we've all known each other since practically birth and a whole mess of emotions have been felt as we grew up, I blame it on the hormones. Luke and Nova, there's something there, they're the only two that don't see it.

"Um, Z that outfit is a bit too much" Lincoln says as he sets the food down on the table.

"Wait, why are you all here?" I asked ignoring his statement.
