Skater Girl (Part 20)

My heart pounded softly against my chest as I took each step towards the sign-in table.

There were a few people in front of me and even though I didn't need to wait to sign-in and could just walk up to the table because of who I am I waited for all of them so that I wouldn't have to give away that I was here.

I saw Kyle and Isabella standing by a concession stand where Kyle was handed an ice cream cone and he gave it to Isabella who began to eat it surprisingly not getting any of it on her clothes.

Jake and Austin were off playing some games with Allie and Brittney, no doubt trying to impress them.

I reached the table and saw a three clipboards. One said beginners, another said intermediate and the last said expert.

I had never done anything lower than Expert and I wasn't going to begin now. Imagine a 10 year old girl winning the expert rounds against 17-25 year old boys. It was actually something you needed to see to believe.

I signed my name, Kylie Johnson, on the clipboard and one of the guys in charge of the competitors had seen what I had written and asked me before i could escape, "Do you have any ID miss?"

I got out my drivers license and handed it to the guy who's eyes widened and face visibly paled and handed it back to me saying, "Have a nice day Ms. Johnson."

I nodded and thanked him promptly walking away and going over to Kyle and Isabella who were laughing about something.

"What's so funny?"

Isabella continued to giggle and shook her head not letting me in on what the laugh was about.

I shrugged my shoulders and rolled my eyes jokingly and she just leaned forward and planted a kiss on my cheek as she wrapped her small hands around my neck and hugged me as Kyle still held her lower body.

After a few seconds she pulled away from me and said in her cute voice, "Mommy, you're going to win first place right?"

I smiled at her words and said in her ears just loud enough so that I knew that Kyle heard as well, "Just for you, I'll make sure to win first place. How does that sound?"

She bobbed her head back and forth like a small bobble head, grinning at me.

I laughed at her silly expression and kissed her cheek and looked at Kyle, "You'll watch her right? Make sure nothing happens to her?"

He sighed at the question I had been asking him for the past few days and said, "Don't worry Kylie, nothing is going to happen to her. Since when have I ever let anything happen to her?"

I thought back to it and finally came to the conclusion, "Never."

He smiled and said, "Exactly."

Then my nerves got the best of me and I heard the guy who announces the game. His voice echoed throughout the park as he began to introduce everything.

"Welcome everyone. Today we have quite a competition on our hands. A few minutes ago i went through that register list and you all would not believe who's here."

Some people in the park shouted, "Who?" at the guy who was most likely close to the place where people competed and he answered, "Now, now, that's a secret."

He began to introduce the beginners who quite honestly looked a little scared to be here and compete today and I just giggled knowing that i have never felt that way. competitions gave me an adrenaline rush and I loved that feeling. i just hope that after 3 years I still get the rush.
