Stiles pov
I got a job pretty quickly being a bartender. They were so desperate that they wanted me to work right away, it was quite easy. I work at Rousseau's. It's a nice place.
I notice a man in a nice suit walk in and sit down by the bar. He asks for a drink.
"So what brings you to the big easy?" I ask while handing him his drink.
"I used to lived here," he says in a British accent. The vibe I'm getting is old. Very old. Probably a vamp.
"Really? When?" I want to learn more about him.
"Oh, feels like 100 years ago," he answers.
Definitely vampire. I smirk at him. "I just moved here myself. What brought you back?"
"Well, my brother is here somewhere. I'm afraid he might have gotten himself into a bit of a bind."
"You say that like it's a common occurrence."
"Well, he's complicated. Defiant, ill-mannered, and a little temperamental. See, we don't share the same father. Of course, that never bothered me, but my brother resents it deeply, never felt like he belonged. All told, he has a long history of getting himself into trouble."
I nod understanding. "Sounds a bit like me. Well the getting into trouble part." I take a breath. "I'm guessing you have a long history of getting him out of it." He nods, smirking. "What kind of bind is your brother in?"
"He believes there are people in this town that are conspiring against him."
"Wow, narcissistic and paranoid." He looks surprised. "Sorry. Had a father in law enforcement. Stole a police radio and got myself involved. Also had FBI training for a year before things happened."
"Listen," he looks at my name tag, "Stiles. I'm looking for someone who might shed some light on his current predicament. She works here— Jane-Anne Deveraux. Any idea where I might find her?"
And there is the motive. Selma had mentioned a few names of witches to us. Jane-Anne was one of them. While I don't know where Jane-Anne is, Selma mentioned someone who would.
"No," I answer, "but I know someone who might. My shifts almost over, I'll bring you to her in a couple minutes."
"No you don't have to," he insists.
"I kinda do because I don't remember the address in the slightest." I chuckle. He agrees.
A few minutes later we walk down the streets of New Orleans.
Sabine speaks to the tourists. "Welcome to New Orleans and the crown jewel of the crescent city: the French quarter— jazz and jambalaya, romance and poetry." She begins to cross the street to a shop, the tourists following her. "Not to mention the things that go bump in the night, monsters that feed off human blood, vengeful spirits of the dead, and, my personal favorite, the witches. Here we have the voodoo shop Jardín Gris. Go in. Browse for a hex." The tourists walk into the store, leaving Sabine. She walks out to the empty street. "Are you going to continue following me, Elijah," she turns to Elijah and I, "or do you wanna talk?"
He looks surprised as she walks up to him. "You know who I am."
"Original Vampire always wears a suit."
I cut her off and turn to him. "That's why I was getting that vibe off of you, one that I only get off of Alex."
He turns to me. "You're a witch."
"No," my eyes glow orange, "I'm something else.""What are you?" He asks.
"It's complicated," I answer honestly. My eyes change back. "Part werefox, part kitsune, and part nogitsune. I'm not completely sure what it means."
Sabine looks surprised but continues. She focuses on Elijah. "You and your family are famous amongst the witches, especially with your brother back in town."
He steps forward. "Well, Nicklaus is here because he learned that a witch was conspiring against him, someone by the name of Jane-Anne Deveraux." Ohhhhh. She was the trouble, kinda.
A look of sorrow crosses Sabines face and quickly disappears. "Well, if he's looking for Jane-Anne, he's a little late." Sabine looks upset.
Elijah picks up on that. "Are you telling me she's dead?"
She looks think she's thinking. "Come on. Her sister Sophie is gonna want to talk to you." She walks away, gesturing for us to follow. Elijah looks confused.
We all walk to an empty street. A girl, who I assume is Jane-Anne, is dead on the floor. Women with candles surrounding her. Witches.
Elijah looks remorseful. "That's Jane-Anne?" He turns to Sabine. She nods and he turns back. "Killed in public for anyone to find."
"Only people who come around here are the witches." She crosses her arms. "Now her sister has come to take her body. Her spirit can't rest until it's been properly interred in the cemetery."
He turns back to her, not meeting her eyes. "Please tell me that my brother had nothing to do with this."
"No. Jane-Anne died because she got caught doing magic."
I speak up. "What do you mean, she got caught doing magic?"
Before Sabine can answer we all hear a whistle and laughing.
Sabine turns to us. "You want to know who killed Jane-Anne? You're about to get your first glimpse of Marcel in action."
Elijah seems to recognize the name. "The vampire Marcel?"
Sabines breath picks up, as does her heart. "Things have changed since your family left town. Marcel has changed." Vampires begin to jump from everywhere, surrounding the witches. "I'm asking you, stay hidden." She looks at me. "Both of you. If Marcel finds out that a witch let the originals back into town, or an unknown creature, my people will be slaughtered."
Elijah grabs me and speeds us to a balcony. "Wow," I gasp, "You're faster then a werewolf." He smirks and turns his focus to Marcel.
A black man, who I believe is Marcel speaks up. "Well, well, well. What have we here? I got to tell you, Soph, this street corner is not proving the luckiest spot for your family tonight." Sophie stands up. A vampire hisses at her. "Not half an hour ago, we had to teach your sister a little lesson."
Sophie shakes her head. "We're putting her to rest, Marcel. Leave us alone."
Marcel shrugs. "I never said you could move the body. Matter of fact, I left her here for a reason, send a message. If anybody is thinking of joining some kind of rebellion, my rules state that witches can't practice magic in the quarter, and yet a little birdie informed me that Jane-Anne was cooking something magically delicious. Oh, yeah." He laughs. "While I have you, quick Q and A. My old friend the hybrid Klaus, he just happened to show up out of the blue asking for, of all people, Jane-Anne. Any idea why?"
"I don't know. Witches don't get involved in vampire business." She's lying. Her heartbeat is too fast, I don't think vamps really figure they could listen to a heartbeat.
I nudge Elijah. He turns to me. "She's lying," I whisper. He looks surprised. I turn my attention back to the scene unfolding in front of us.
Marcel hums. "That would be pretty stupid, that's for sure." He walks around her, stopping behind her. "Tell you what. Go back to the restaurant. Cook up some of that famous gumbo and keep those tourists happy." He looks towards a nightwalker. "Take the body."
"What?" Sophie asks. "No. Stop. Stop. Marcel—"
He begins to walk away. "I'm gonna hold on to your sister's body in case maybe you remember why Klaus is here."
"Marcel please," Sophie begs. "Her body won't be at peace."
By now he's further away. "Not my problem." I'm surprised how ruthless this is. Then again vampires are technically dead so, yeah.
Elijah decides to call his sister Rebekah. While he's on the phone Scott calls me. Still walking, I answer.
Sc: I bit Theo.
St: You did what?
Sc: I didn't have a choice, he was dying.
St: It's fine. Theo's different now.
Sc: They admitted that they love each other.
St: Finally no more sexual tension between the two of them.
Sc: There's still gonna be sexual tension between the two of them.
St: Probably.
Sc: Theo's resting now, we have to help him threw it, like we helped Hayden. So come home.
St: I kinda can't. I'm busy.
Sc: Stiles.
St: Sorry. I'll talk to you later bye!
I end the call before Scott can say anything else and noticed that Elijah ended his call and was starring at me smirking.
"What?" I ask him.
"You seemed to want to end that conversation quickly."
I groan. "Yep. He's totally gonna kill me later. Right now I'm sticking with you. I am quite curious to the situation here. It also brings me back to when I was younger. Solve mysteries and all that crap. Finding body's in the woods." I chuckle, feeling nostalgic.
"Well, shall we go?" He asks, gesturing to Rousseau's.
"We shall," I say mocking his accent. I walk forward, hearing him laugh behind me.
Elijah saves Sophie from two vampires. He looks up at the roof. "You can come down now." I jump down off the roof, landing next to Elijah. He turns to Sophie. "I'm Elijah. You heard of me?"
Sophie nods. "Yes."
Elijah walks forward. "So why don't you tell me what business your family has with my brother?"
Sophie brings the two of us to the Lafayette Cemetery. Me and her walk-in but, Elijah is stopped by invisible barrier.
Sophie turns around to face him. "This is sacred ground, which mean vampires have to be invited in... but since I'm desperate, come on in." Elijah steps over the barrier. "We can talk freely here."
Elijah follows us walking. "Then I suggest you start talking." Sophie stops walking and turns to Elijah. "What did your sister wasn't with Nicklaus?"
"Isn't it obvious? We have a vampire problem, and we need help. Marcel has an army backing him. The witches have been trying to fight back. We haven't had much luck until my sister Jane-Anne met a girl, a werewolf passing through the quarter from a small town in Virginia. She had a special connection to your brother."
"What kind of connection?" Elijah asks.
"She's pregnant isn't she," I guess.
"Yep," Sophie nods.
"It's impossible," Elijah denies.
"In the world of the supernatural, nothing is impossible," I tell him.
"Especially not when it comes to your brother. Think about it. They call him the hybrid, right?" She turns behind her and calls, "Bring her out."
A girl is brought out and asks us, "Who the hell are you?"
Elijah looks baffled. He looks to Sophie. "Give us a moment, please."
We are brought into a room in the cemetery. The girl sits on a bench, while Elijah walks back and forth. I lean against the wall, my arms crossed.
"So have they been here against your will?" Elijah asks.
I scoff. "No. She's totally staying locked in a cemetery by her own free will." He glares at me. I shrug in response.
"They lured me out to the Bayou and grabbed me. Then they did all these weird, witchy tests. Not that I understand how this could happen. I mean, vampires are dead. They can't have children," she elaborates.
"Perhaps if both of you knew my brother's story, it might explain how this is possible." He walks up to her putting a hand by her head. She backs up. "Here. If I may..."
"What are you doing?" She asks him.
"Relax." He sits next to her. I sit next to both of them on the floor. "If you open your mind to me, I can show you." He places one of his hands on both of our heads. "In the beginning, our family was human, 1,000 years ago now." Wow Alex is so much older. "Although our mother dabbled in the dark arts, we were largely just a family trying to survive at a time when it was quite difficult to do so... and for better or worse, we were happy. That is, however, until one night, our youngest brother was killed by our village's greatest threat. Men that could transform themselves into wolves during a full moon. Our family was devastated, none more than Nicklaus. Desperate to protect the rest of us, our father forced our mother to call upon her black magic in order to make us stronger. This, the first vampires were born, but with this speed, this strength, this immortality came a terrible hunger. No one felt this hunger more than Niklaus. When he killed for he first time, we knew what he truly was. He wasn't just a vampire."
The girl finishes for him. "He was also a werewolf. That's how the werewolf curse works. It isn't activated until you take a life."
I butt into the conversation. "That's only for type A werewolves." They look at me confused. "I-" I sigh, "I'll explain later."
Elijah continues. "Niklaus was the result of an indiscretion our mother had hidden from us all, an affair with a werewolf like yourself. Infuriated by this betrayal, my father forced our mother to cast a spell that would suppress Klaus' werewolf side, denying him any connection with his true self."
The girls looks up to him. "Your dad was a dick." Elijah chuckles. "I'm Hayley, by the way." She hold her hand out to Elijah. "You should probably know my name if you're gonna tell me your whole life story. I mean, I know you're. Your family is legendary. Your brother is a notorious psycho, who I slept with, classic me."
I introduce myself and offer my hand to Hayley. She takes it.
"I cannot excuse my brothers behavior, but you must understand that our father hunted him," he stands up, "hunted us for centuries. Every time we found a moment of happiness, we were forced to flee, even here in New Orleans, where we were happiest of all. Not long after Niklaus broke the spell which prevented him from becoming a hybrid, he defeated our father. I thought this would make home happy." He shakes his head. "He was angrier than ever. I wonder if, perhaps, this baby might be a way for my brother to find happiness, a way to save him from himself." Elijah looks hopeful.
The moment is ruined when a voice cuts through the silence. "I'm glad you feel that way," Sophie walks into view, " because we need your help."
Elijah turns to her. "What, precisely, is it that you want, and what does it have to do with is young woman?"
"We want to run Marcel and his vampires out of town. Klaus is the key. Everything Marcel knows about being a vampire he learned from Klaus. Marcel trust him, looks up to him. He won't see the betrayal coming."
"Yes. Well, as I'm sure you're aware, my brother Niklaus doesn't like to be told what to do," he informs her.
"It's why I brought you here. Marcel drove the werewolves out of town decades ago. Do you really think he's gonna welcome a hybrid baby to the neighborhood? Convince Klaus to help us, and no one has to know about the newest member of the original family."
"That sound remarkably like blackmail," I comment.
"Like I said, I'm desperate," she challenges.
Elijah takes a deep breath. "Well, then, I have my work cut out for me, don't I?"
Elijah leaves to find Klaus, leaving me and Hayley alone.
"Do you think Elijah's cute?" I ask her.
"Very," she sighs.
The rest of the time passes as awkward silence. Elijah later walks in with another man, Klaus.
"No. It's impossible," Klaus denied after we told him about the baby.
"I said the same thing myself," Elijah admits.
Klaus points to his brother. "This is a lie. You're all lying. Vampires cannot procreate."
I speak up, hearing enough. "But werewolves can. Magic may have made you a vampire, but you were always a werewolf. You're the original hybrid, right? The first of your kind, this pregnancy is one of nature's loopholes."
Klaus becomes enraged. He points to Hayley. "You've been with someone else. Admit it!"
I push him back. "Watch your fucking attitude asshole." Elijah looks at me with wide eyes, wondering why I'm not scared. "This girl, Hayley has spent days held captive in the bayou because they think she's carrying some miracle baby. Don't you think she would've fessed up if it wasn't yours." I put a finger on his chest. "You think you are so damn entitled because of how old you are. Well news flash, the originals aren't the oldest beings around." They look at me with wide eyes. Crap I didn't mean to say that. I take my hand off his chest. "I-I didn't mean to say that I-" I feel my eyes glow and my claws and fangs come out. I'm freaking out. I run out of the room.
I hear Klaus say to them to " kill her and the baby." He then runs after me. Damn it.
I'm running through the woods when something his my leg causing me to stumble to the floor, I check my leg. It was a Wolfsbane laced bullet. Hunters. I try to stand up but a arrow pins my arm to a tree. My breathing picks up.
Two figures come out of the trees. One with a gun and the other with a crossbow.
The one with the crossbow speaks up. "Monroe said to kill a beta of the McCall pack cause it hurts your alpha more." He lifts the crossbow, pointing it at my face. "Why don't you howl? So Scotty boy can hear you crying out in pain," they taunt. I roar at them, trying frantically to find a way out of the situation. Every way ends up with me dead. I close my eyes getting ready for the worst.
I open them when nothing happens. I am greeted to the sight of the two hunters dead on the floor and Klaus looming over them. My knees buckle beneath my weight. I feel two arms wrap around me, holding me up. I look up to see Klaus. He rips out the arrow out of my arm as I grit my teeth.
"Your leg. Why isn't it healing?" He asks me.
I look at my leg to see yellow on the bullet hole. "Ye-yellow Wolfsb-bane. You have to burn it out or it'll kill me." All I hear is someone quietly whisper "damnit" before I blackout.
