Chapter 19- Into the Dark

Zoey's POV

I'm happy for you.

Those were the words that Rome emailed me. He's happy I was here. And I'm lonely he was there.

Dinala ako sa Saint Luke's sa Metro Manila ni Cailee. Hindi nila macontact si Rome.
They did a full check up on me. Si Cailee ang nagbigay ng information sa doctor na tumingin sa akin. I was confined immediately.

"Where the fuck are you?" Sinisigawan ni Cailee ang cellphone niya.
"Cailee." I called her. I felt weak.
"Hindi ko pa rin macontactsi Rome." She said.
"Hayaan mo muna." I replied. He must be busy... Pagtatanggol ko sa kanya... Pero kanino ko pinagtatanggol si Rome? Sa sarili ko ba?

Kinabukasan, nasa tabi ko pa rin si Cailee pero hindi pa rin nagpapakita si Rome.

Pumasok ang doctor na nagpakilalang OB-Gyne and she said that she needs to discuss something to me.

"Okay po ba ang mga babie ko?" Nag-aalalang tanong ko.
"They are fine." Sagot ng doctor. Tumingi ito kay Cailee.
"Meron ka bang pwedeng makasama besides Doc. Sebastian? Your partner or perents, perhaps."
Umiling ako. "Ako lang po mag-isa. Okay po sa akin na nandito ang kaibigan ko."
Tumango ang doctor. "Zoey, you have a cyst on your left ovary."
Hindi ko inaasahan ang ganung kalala na fidings sa akin.
"Is it cancerous?" Tanong ni Cailee. Hidi ako makapagsalita.
"We need to do a test. But you are pregnant on your early second trimester." Sagot ng doctor.
"How big?" I asked her.
"It's bigger than what I expected. According to you MRI and ultrasound, nasa 6-7 cm na."
"Will it affect the baby? Any options?" Cailee asked.
"It will not affect her babies... but Zoey's health will be affected." Sagot ng doctor.

Diyos ko Lord... Bukol...

"Hindi ko mabubuka ang pwerta mo ngayon lalo't kambal ang anak mo. What we can do is observe the cyst, kung mabilis ang paglaki niya, kailangan nating kumuha ng sample. If it is cancerous, we need to undergo a chemo therapy."
I am a doctor so I know that look... Vet man ako, pero nasa medicine pa rin ang line of work ko.
"And?" Nilakasan ko ang loob sa pagtanong.
"We need to abort the pregnancy if active ang cyst..."
"No... It's not an option." I replied.
"Or we can wait until you reach 7 months and we will do the CS, operation and chemo."
"Kung active ang cancer cell, mabilis kakalat sa katawan ni Zoey ang cancer." Cailee pointed out.
"Yes." Maikling sagot ng doctor. "But it will not affect the baby."

"I will wait for my babies to be safe bago ako mag-undergo ng any treatment." I decided.
"Zoey..." Cailee hold my hand.
"I will not abort..." Umiling ako kay Cailee.

"Kailangan mong bumalik sa akin next week para masukat ang cyst. Then we will move forward kung ano ang gagawin natin." Iniwan kaming doctor sa kwarto.

"Cailee, huwag mong sasabihin sa iba." I told her.
"Kailangan malaman ni Rome."
"Please Cailee. Hayaan mong ako na lang ang magdala ng bigat ng sitwasyon. Maraming problema si Rome." I begged her.
"Ang dami mo ng tinatago kay Rome. Let him help you." She looked stressed already.
"Promise me. Walang makakaalam nito."
Cailee looked at me stubbornly. I am just one step from breaking, but I hold on.
"Okay. I promise." Huminga ng malalim si Cailee. Natahimik kaming dalawa.

"Doctor tayong dalawa Cailee. Alam natin ang magiging result. Kahit anong mangyari, piliin nyo ang mga anak ko." My tears fell down. Nakayuko si Cailee habang hawak ang kamay ko.
"It's not cancerous." She said.
"It's active and we knew that. Kung benign yan, nakita na sana ni Tito Tristan noong nag-ultra sound siya sa akin." I replied.

Don't go in the dark. Follow the light.
That's what Allison said to me.

I need to be strong for my children. This is the only gift that I can give to Rome. I will fight until I can...
