Chapter 2
((Melody POV))
After all was done, I flew a over Kili and Fili and watched Bilbos stunned reaction to the chaotic musical number that just happened. We where all laughing until we heard three heavy knocks on the door. I was a bit frightened by the sudden silence and floated to the ground to hide behind Kili. We all gathered towards the door, however I was too short to see past Kili and Fili. "Gandalf." My pointed ears twitched as I heard a new voice...a new deep voice that sent shivers down my spine. "I thought you said this place would be easy to find, I lost my way twice. I wouldn't have found it if not for that mark in the door." I nodded in agreement as I had the same problem. "Mark?! There is no mark on that door it was painted a week ago!" Bilbo shrieked. "There is a mark I put it there myself. Bilbo Baggins, I would like for you to meet the leader of our company, Thorin Oakenshield." I smiled, imagining what he looked like...he be nice looking to match such a manly voice. "Tell me mr. Baggins have you done much fighting?" I heard Thorin ask. "What?" I could already hear the confusion in Bilbos voice. "Axe or Sword? What is your weapon of choice?" Thorin asked, I crouched on the floor to look through the dwarves legs seeing the dwarf circle bilbo. Though all I could see was his feet. "Well I am very skilled at conkers if you must know but I fail to see...why that's relevant." I couldn't help but giggle quietly. "Figured as much, seems more like a grocer than a burglar." All the dwarves laughed, I didn't. "Thorin, I have someone else I would like you to meet." Gandalf said, I gulped....please no. "Melody. Come here." He said. I weaved my way through the dwarves and came to see a rather tall dwarf, with black hair with hardly visible grey streaks and a needless to say, sexy black beard and a strong build. I blushed and bowed. "Melody Claw...at your service master Thorin." I said looking up at him. He looked at me...curious and confused. "Gandalf why would you invite a small hobbit girl along when we already have a dwarf." I furrowed my eyebrows. "Hey!" I slightly shouted gaining his attention. He walked over to me and towered over me. "Yes?" He said in a deep tone. "I-I'm not a hobbit!" I said looking down at my feet. I felt his finger under my chin as he pulled my head up to meet his intense stare. "Then what are you?" I flittered my wings into view and flew up to reach his height. "I'm a Faerie." I said, he looked surprised then dismissed it. " what is your weapon of choice?" I shrugged. "Sword, bow & arrow, axe, mace. I've mastered it all." I said with a rather proud look on my face. Thorin looked at me up and down then turned away to look at Gandalf. "Why are we bringing her?" He asked Gandalf sounding annoyed by my presence. "Melody is here for our protection. She is more than powerful enough to protect all of us from whatever may lie ahead on this journey. You would be foolish to decline her." I looked up at Thorin and saw doubt in his eyes. I tuned away only to have my shoulder grabbed by Thorin. "Give Mr. Baggins and Melody a contract." I smiled and took the contract and went to go read it over at the tabel. As I was reading the contract I noticed a word that caught my eye. "Um....incineration??" I said looking at all the dwarves. Bilbo gulped being at the same part I was at. "Aye, melt the meat off your bones in the blink of an eye." I looked at Bofur in confusion. " think furnace with wings!" He continued. I flittered my wings to sit on top of the table and watched Bilbo try to think and breath.
"Flash of light, searing pain, the. Poof! Your nothing more than a pile of ash." He continued again. Bilbo suddenly collapsed on the ground and I let out a laugh. "Your not scared lass?" I turned my attention to Dwalin. "What? Of dragons? Pft. No. I've encountered dragons before, their quite easy to handle if you know how to do it. I used to raise dragons." I said in a nonchalant way. "Have you seen Smaug?" Ori asked. "S-Smaug?" my eyes went wide and my heart was pounding. "Yes. Smaug." Thorin said from behind me. "Yes...I have. I saw him when he was only a baby. I raised him until he grew into an adult and left me. I have not heard anything of him since." I said. I could feel Thorin standing very close behind me. "You raised Smaug?" He said in my ear. I turned and looked at him. "Yes...but I only raised him into his middle years. I've never seen him as an adult. How do you all know of Smaug?" I asked and suddenly saw looks of grim and grief in everyone's eyes. Balin stood and explained the whole thing to me.
*timeskip because I'm sure all of you know what happened.*
I was in horror. Absolute horror. "Smaug...I can't believe it...I always knew he was going to be a reckless dragon but I never imagined..." I said. I furrowed my eyebrows and signed the contract. "I would be honored and proud to help you reclaim your home." The company clapped and cheered. I watched a small smile form on Thorin's lips. He turned and left the room. I was suddenly pulled off the table into Kili's lap as he was hugging me. I laughed and felt my face heat up bright red. "I'm so happy your coming with us!" He said happily. I laughed and climbed out of his lap and went to find Bilbo. I found him talking to Bilbo and took a seat next to Bilbo just as Gandalf left. "Hey....you okay?" I said looking at a stressed out Bilbo. He shook his head. "No...no Melody I'm not. I don't want to go out and risk my life!" I frowned. "Your not going to die...I promise. If you decide to go....just know that I promise to protect you until my heart stops beating." Bilbo looked at me in shock. Then gave me a faint smile. "Thank you...I suppose you would like a bed to sleep in." I nodded.
Bilbo led me to an extra bedroom where I changed into my sleep clothes. I was wearing very short shorts and a long sleeved thin shirt. I climbed into the large bed and snuggled myself underneath the covers. As I rolled and tossed trying to go to sleep I found that I couldn't so I decided to go and talk to the dwarves again, they where rather entertaining. I crawled out of bed and wrapped one of the blankets around me, dragging on the floor behind me as I walked to the living room. All of the dwarves where smoking their pipes and looking at the fire. I saw Bofur and went to sit next to him. He offered me his pipe and I gladly took it, inhaling it fully into my lungs. I slowly and gracefully let the smoke float out of my mouth in a puffy white streak. All was silent, then my spine tingled when I heard Thorin's low Baritone voice start to sing. I sat in awe listening to the dwarves sing, I knew they loved it but they all sang so beautifully. I watch passion burn in Thorin's eyes as he sung. I felt my heard pound when he looked at me. I blushed and looked away. The song ended and all of the dwarves went and started to lay down in various places. I looked to see Thorin walk outside and I decided to follow him.
I shut the door behind me and walked to stand next to him. "Why did you follow me?" He asked not looking at me. "I walked to talk to you..." I said. "You have an amazing voice." I said looking up at him. He looked at me and smiled and nodded. I looked away and shivered realizing I left my blanket inside. Thorin suddenly wrapped an arm around my shoulder and I couldn't help but hug him pressing the side of my face into the soft fur of his coat. "You should stay warm." He said smiling down at me. "Why are you being so nice to me?" I asked generally curious. "Your an interesting person Melody." He said looking out over the shire. "I just don't understand why you want to come with us. You could do you know." I smiled and placed my hand on my hip. "I want to go because your home was stolen from you," I turned fully towards him as he turned towards me. "And I want to do anything in my power to help you reclaim it." I looked into his beautiful blue eyes and leaned up towards him. I had to go on my very tip-toes to get close to his face without flying. He leaned down and pressed his forehead to mine looking into my eyes. "You have different color eyes." He said. I nodded, my left eye was emerald green and my right was sapphire blue. I smiled "yeah I do...I always found it odd." I whispered leaning my head up and touched my nose to his. He was a large dwarf...or I was just extremely small. I felt his arm around me slide down to my waist as he pulled away. "I will be happy to have you in my company Melody." I smiled and bowed to him. "It will be an honor to serve and protect the King under the mountain." I looked up at him with a grin before walking calmly into the house then jumping up and down in excitement. I then stopped and proceeded out the door once again "Goodnight Master Thorin." I said smiling and he nodded. I walked back into my room and climbed back into my bed. I snuggled under the covers and hugged a pillow close to me, thinking about Thorin and going on an adventure. I had lived my life by myself for the most part. I occasionally visiting Gandalf but since I was the last of my kind...I kept myself alone. With the thought of going on an adventure with dwarves and Gandalf I smiled to myself and soon was taken over by sleep.
