Chapter 4
((Melody POV))
I woke up, stretching my back and looked around to see all the dwarves getting up. I flittered my wings and floated through the air. I pulled an apple out of my bag just before Fili grabbed it to strap it to his pony once again. "Thanks again Fili! Your a life saver!" I said happily and pecked his cheek. He blushed and nodded. I flew away only to look back and see Kili nudging his brothers arm. I laughed and went over to Thorin so say goodmorning. "Goodmorning Master Thorin!" I said happily placing my hands on his shoulders. He ignored me....what? No. "Um....hello?" I said going around to look at him face to face. "Goodmorning! Master?" I said sadly. I landed on the ground and tugged on his coat as he continued getting his pony ready. "Are you mad at me..." I said pulling out my big puppy dog eyes. He glanced at me and turned and walked away, I felt my heart crack.
Bofur came and placed his hand on my shoulder, "did I do something wrong?" I asked looking at Bofur. "He's been like that all morning. I wouldn't think too much of it. Come on, we're leaving." I nodded and walked over to Kili. "Kili can I ride with you?" He nodded. I climbed on and hugged around his waist. "Have you ever ridden a pony?" He asked. "Um...no?" He smiled and got off and climbed back on behind me, I used a spell to make my wings disappear so that he would crush them. "Okay, now hold the reins like this." He said cupping his strong hands around my small ones making me hold the reins. The pony threw its head up and I was pushed back into Kili's chest. "Agh!" I shrieked letting go of the reins. He laughed and took hold of the reins. I smiled and watched the pony bob it's head up and down as we walked. "I can't believe your a faerie and you've never ridden a horse." Kili said. "Well, for one I have wings and two I see animals as friends not rides." I said making Kili laugh. I leaned agains his broad chest and just relaxed and enjoyed the ride. I looked at a pocket on his jacket and reached in it, finding a small black stone with an engraving. "What's this?" I asked gaining Kili's attention. "Oh, it's nothing." I nodded and played with it in my hands. "Melody!" Gandalf yelled from the front of the group. I flew to the front next to Gandalf. "Melody, do you see that tree up ahead?" I looked to see a tree full of apples. "Yes...what about it?" I asked confused. "I want you to shoot some apples down." I nodded and landed on the ground. A glow of light flashed around my entire body and dissapeared. Leaving me in not my mint green dress but a black strapless dress with a gold colored lace at the bottom. A white wrap around my stomach with a black colored cloak and hood. I summoned a blue bow and silver arrows. The dwarves where in awe at my transformation. White eagle wings sprouted from my back twice the size of my normal little fairy wings. I flew high into the air and aimed six arrows at six different apples. I released and hit each apple. I twisted in the air and shot down another three then landed myself on the ground. A large flash of light formed again and I went back to my previous state. I fell to the ground and struggled getting up. Kili jumped off his pony and ran to help me. "That was amazing! Are you okay?" He kept a strong arm around me and held me up. "Melody has immense power, however in her small form it is hard for her normal body to handle." Gandalf said and I nodded. Kili scooped me up and placed me back on his pony, holding onto me so that I wouldn't fall off. "Melody can you do more than that?" Gloin asked causing all of the dwarves to listen in. "Yes...I can do much more than that." I said softly. "Why are you so weak now?" Dwalin asked. "I just haven't used a transformation spell in a long time...it take a lot of magic out if you. You see, Gandalf is a wizard, he learned magic to he is very limited to what he can do. I was born with magic running through my veins so I can basically do whatever I please with it. The harder spell you do though...the more energy it takes out of you." I said sighing leaning against Kili's chest. I looked out to the sky to see it was getting dark. I tuned and looked at Kili. "Thank you for letting me ride with you, your very sweet." He smiled at me. I looked back forward and started braiding his ponies mane. After I finished I noticed we had stopped. "Alright," Kili said hopping off then offering me a hand which I took jumping down. I thanked him and immediately went to see Thorin. "Hello Master Thorin." I said grinning, hoping he would talk to me. Nope....he didn't. "Excuse me...but did I do something wrong?" I said trying to keep my head though I was getting very angry. He looked at me then looked away. I flew to his height and grabbed his shoulder tightly swinging him around. "Hey what's you pro-" I suddenly felt a sharp pain on my cheek. I roughly hit the ground and held my stinging face. He hit me...I was in total shock. "Get away from me!" Thorin yelled. I scrambled away from the ground and quickly flew into the woods where Fili and Kili where. I landed and decided to rub some dirt on my face where a bruise was starting to form so nobody would see. "H-hey guys." I said trying to hide the pain in my voice. I jumped hearing bilbo behind me. "Here's your food." Bilbo said then looked at me. Fili and Kili where not moving... "You guys okay?" I asked placing a hand on Fili's shoulder. "We're supposed to be watching the ponies. Though we've encountered a sleight problem. We had sixteen...now we have fourteen." I nodded and looked to find large trees knocked down. "What do you think it was?" I asked watching Kili wander elsewhere. "Trolls." He said pointing to a light a little far off. "Should I go tell Thorin?" Bilbo said, I felt a pang of fear in my chest and pressed a hand on my cheek feeling the sting. "No let's not bother him." The brothers said. Suddenly we watched a troll walk by with two more ponies. "We need to do something!" Bilbo said "yes...you should! Your so small and their so big and stupid they'll never notice you." Bilbo shook his head. "We'll be right behind you!" Kili said and urged Bilbo on. As he started to walk I started to follow only to have Kili and Fili grab my shoulders and shake their heads. "Melody we need you to go tell Thorin. Go." They urged me away and I swallowed the fear in my throat.
I went back to the camp and found Thorin. He looked in deep thought. I slowly walked towards him and lightly tapped on his shoulder. "M-master Thorin." He turned and looked at me with a different look in his eyes. "What?" He said standing. I felt his intimidating air wash over me and I panicked and held my face where he had hit me. I flew away and told Dwalin what was going on and told him to tell Thorin and flew back to where Fili and Kili where.
I looked and found Kili standing with his Sword drawn and I immediately summoned my sword and waited. "I said! Drop him!" Kili yelled. I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked to see Thorin by my side as well as the rest of the dwarves. "You better stay back Melody. You might get hurt." He said looking at me. I furrowed my eyebrows and pushed his hand off of my shoulder. I turned and saw the troll throw Bilbo at Kili. We all took our chance and ran out. I immediately began slicing into the trolls thick legs and arms. One managed to hit me sending me flying into a rock knocking me out.
I woke up tied up in a bag. "W-what's going on" I said as my vision cleared. I saw half the dwarves tied in bags around me and the others tied over a fire. I struggled trying to get out of the bag and failed. I tuned myself into the conversation and listened to bilbo talking with the trolls. "What about the seasoning?" One troll said looking at bilbo. "Well have you smelled them? Your going to need something stronger than sage to get rid of that." Bilbo said and all of the dwarves started yelling at him. The troll stared at bilbo "what would you know about cooking dwarf?" Bilbo looked away thinking for a moment. "Well...the secret to cooking dwarf is to...skin them first!!" He said.
Oh my...
The dwarves raged and I'm pretty sure I heard Dwalin yell that he was going to skin bilbo when this was over. Suddenly the young troll chimed in. "I've had plenty if raw dwarf! Nice and juicy." He said dangling Bombur over his mouth. "NO!" I shrieked and the trolls looked at me. The troll walked and picked me up by my ear, tossing Bombur back to the pile. "Why not?" He said in my face. "They infected! They have worms...in their tubes! So does she!" The troll looked at me in disgust and threw me onto the pile where I landed on Thorin. "Agh!" I said landing. Thorin looked at me with worry in his eyes. "We don't have parisites!" Kili yelled followed by all the others. Thorin soon took notice to what bilbo was doing and kicked Kili in the back of the head. The dwarves where silent until they started bragging about how big their worms where. However...the troll was not as dumb as they where leading on to be. "This little ferret is taking us for fools!" He said. "Ferret??" Bilbo said offended. "The dawn will take you all!" Gandalf said appearing out of nowhere on top of a large rock. "Who's that?" A troll said "no idea." The other replied. The young one chimed in "can we eat him too?" Gandalf slammed his staff onto the bolder splitting it in half allowing the sun to shine though and turned all of the trolls to stone. "Gandalf!" I yelled in pure happiness as I was cut free of my bag. I flew to go to him but Thorin grabbed my wrist before I could. "What where you thinking?! I told you to stay back! You could have gotten yourself hurt!" He said furiously. I glared at him and scoped up some water from a puddle under my feet. I splashed it, washing away the dirt I had smeared earlier to hide my bruise that was now dark and purple. His eyes went wide and he let his tight grip on my wrist loosen "I was already hurt, there was nothing they could have done that hurt me more than this." I said in a stone cold tone. "Melody I... I didn't mean to! I was angry and frustrated! I would never hurt you on purpose! I care for you to much." He said pulling me to the side. "Well master Thorin. This," I said pointing at my blackened cheek. "Is not caring..." I said kneeling down scooping up dirt and rubbing it on the bruise to cover it again. "I-" Thorin started but I cut him off. "I'll tell them I got it from a troll. I don't wish to speak with you for a while though...goodbye." I said sadly and flew away to be with Bofur and Bombur.
((Thorin POV))
"I'll tell them I got it from a troll. I don't wish to speak with you for a while though...goodbye." I felt my heart break hearing Melody's words and watching her fly away. Gandalf soon gained my attention. "Where did you go?" I asked him. "I was looking ahead." He replied. "What brought you back?" I urged on. "Looking behind, good thing I did." I scoffed. "No thanks to your hobbit." Gandalf looked down at me. "Bilbo had the mind to buy for time. Something none of you though off." I nodded and followed him somewhere. I couldn't help but look sadly at Melody who was laughing with Bofur and Bombur. I felt my heart strain...why did I hit her? I've never struck a girl before. I didn't mean it I couldn't control myself. I would never lay a harmful hand on her.
I tightly grabbed onto my sword as we approached a cave.
