Epilogue

" I hate you."

"I hate you more."

" I skipped the meeting and you couldn't leave your company for one day?"

"Our company,Dia."

" Why didn't you follow me out?"

"Teena stopped me and.."

Aarav stops and looks around wildly for cover in case a vase comes flying at him.

"Get out ,"shouts Dia.

Aarav picks his set of keys and walks out.

"Like I would want to stay here.I won't be back till morning," he retorts before slamming the door.

She sits on the dining table. Guilt reaches her  in a minute.
Poor guy. Too much work for him to even have lunch.  Now looks like no time for dinner.
She flips a magazine, regretting and cursing.

She does not notice Aarav climbing the tree into the master bedroom.
But however it only takes a matter of seconds to know his footsteps.

She stops,chuckles and gets up.

She climbs the stairs.

She dials Paari's number in loud speaker. Before she picks up,back in normal tone.

"Hey,sexy!"

" Hey, gorgeous."

"I made my husband leave at last."

" Is this one of those phone calls? you freaked out Vishal last time. He was so sure his wife is a lesbian. He said he was not getting himself a sandwich anytime soon."

" Yeah, idiot has no idea I am cheating on him."

Aarav listens from the door,fuming.

" Dia,it's the fifth call and the  least subtle one. Why didn't he figure it out? When did Aarav become so dumb?"

"Jealousy is very powerful. Yes baby,I would like you to do all those things."

Paari shrieks.

"I am doing nothing," she hangs up, laughing.

Aarav barges out and grabs her phone.
He looks at Paari's number on phone and  smiles sheepishly.

"I knew it."

" Is that why you came out barging out like rhino?"

He glares at her and puts her over his shoulder.

"Such a caveman. Put me down,"says Dia,not sounding uncomfortable.

" This was too much. I am hungry. Let's go eat that delicious chicken."

Only after gulping down half the food, they spoke again.

" How did you know I was in the house?"

"You are no spy and all those midnight treat times  gave me practise for  the sound of your footsteps."

He looks up and narrows his eyes.

"Treats? Have you been eating food without me?"
" Fears. I said fears. You know all the murders and robberies. Keeps  me up at nights."

He shrugs.

" I don't which is worse. Getting my food stolen by you or cheated on!"

She hastily changes the subject.

"We are meeting both our parents in Ankhitha's marriage soon."

"I thought Akhil was the one in serious relationship."

" Apparently there is a custom, where the girl should be married before her brother. He literally pushed her into it but my girl won't listen unless she wants to."

"My ex girlfriend and wife became good friends," he states wondering about designs of destiny.

" I wouldn't say good friends but she is nice enough."

"Vivaan is bringing Aarti for lunch this Sunday."

" Who is she again?"

Aarav gets ready to let out all the gossip.
He leans forward.
" The girl  he was dating when we first came to manali. She went to London to do economics. His heart broke and he went on that dating spree. She is coming back forever and seems to be as interested as him. I can feel love in the air.."

"Why did I not hear that story before?"

"I am not cheating on my man. He won't care now."

They took out all the dishes to the sink.

"I anyway came home early. I will do your half of the dishes too. Sit there and tell me more."

Aarav leans against the end of the counter.

"Our house in manali is almost getting over, thanks to the success of Dubey project."

" I am getting irritated with our neighbors here. They look like big fans of  tough love."

Aarav watches her hands full of foam as she talks. Looking gorgeous  with all that hair in her face and doing dishes.

"Aarav."

"Sorry,I got distracted. Yeah, let's play cupid."

"Our parents genes are high on this one for both of us."

He came and hugged her from behind.

"No harm done. I got myself a sexy wife and a dream job."

She tries to shrug out of  his hands  but decides a moment break won't hurt anyone.

"I didn't do bad either."

"That almost made me swoon,"he whispers in her ear.

She let's out a huge breath.

"I guess I am not doing the dishes anymore."

"Who said like poles do not attract each other? It's not physics. It's love."

"Those kind of  dumb ass statements made you fail in science in sixth grade."

They banter. They Netflix and chill. They curse. They have Pizza nights. They party. They fight. They work. They stop at dark corners. They dance. They laze around. They celebrate festivals. They prank each other and others. They have family and friends Sunday brunches. They slave around for their dream jobs. They are together. Just in love.
That's what  their fairytale is about.
It isn't princes, dragons and happily ever afters anymore.
It's the little things, mutual fear of adulting and happiness.

The not so cliché love story of Aarav and Dia.
