You open your eyes to the crisp morning light. Stretching your arms above your head you smile remembering what day it was. No sooner had the thought crossed your mind you heard a knock on the door.
“Come in” you call out placing your feet on the cool cabin floor.“You’re getting married today!” Birdy and Rainy sang out together as they came bouncing through the door.
You smile and stand with your arms open to greet them. They crash into you hugging you tight and you return the embrace. These girls were more than soon to be in laws to you, they were like sisters. Birdy and Rainy had been so welcoming when you first met them and you had instantly formed a bond with them. They had been the ones to show you the ropes, teach you the secrets to living like a true bush girl, but most important of all, they had taught you how to deal with your fiance Bam’s moodiness. The first time you witnessed one of his tantrums as the family called it, you stood back wide eyed ready to run. But his sisters only turned their head away and laughed and today they were going to be your bridesmaids. It seemed like time had moved so slow the last few days. You couldn’t wait to marry your best friend and start your lives together. You had moved into the cabin you would soon share a few days earlier, and Bam had moved into his parents house until after the wedding. You laid awake at night in the big empty bed counting the days until you could fall asleep in his arms. You dreamed of of the wedding day itself, how perfect and beautiful it would be.
Now the day had finally come and your nerves started getting the best of you. Standing in the huddle with Birdy and Rainy you were laughing and sobbing all at the same time.
“Oh no, none of this” Rainy said grabbing your arms. “Let’s go get beautiful and get this show on the road.”
Rainy tugged you over to the vanity Bam had cautiously let you move into the bedroom. He had a hard time accepting the changes to the home he had worked so hard to build. But once you assured him you had no intention of hanging up pink curtains he had relaxed.
Rainy started working on your makeup and hair while Birdy took your dress from the closet hanging it on the doorframe. It was a white strapless dress with beautiful embroidered flowers flowing down the skirt. She then took out the bridesmaid dresses and laid them on the bed. They were simple strapless black dresses with a lace shawl to go over their shoulders.
You heard a few light taps on the door followed by Ami popping her head in. “Just wanted to check on you girls” she said smiling. “You look beautiful and we are taking care of everything so don’t worry a bit.”
You hugged her and thanked her for all the hard work she was doing for the two of you. Ami had taken charge of the decorations and the food and you couldn’t have been more grateful. You and Bam had both decided on a simple wedding on the land he shared with his family.
With your hair and makeup finished you carefully slip into your dress. When the girls go to change you take a quiet moment to yourself by the window. Looking outside it was a beautiful sunny day. You could see all the amazing decorations the family had been working hard to set up. The chairs were in place set up on each side of the isle you were going to be walking down shortly. It led to the steps of the main house where you would say your vows. Beautiful wild flowers were placed perfectly on the arch at the alter that your soon to be brother in laws had taken days to make. Off to the side the tables with food had already been set out and the huge cake Ami had spent hours making was in the center. “Perfect” you whispered to yourself. It was the simple yet beautiful wedding you had dreamed of.
“Well, how do we look?” You turn to see Rainy and Birdy in their dresses. They looked so elegant it brought tears to your eyes.
“Nope we’re not crying today” Birdy said. “The guests are here, the guys are dressed and ready to go, now let’s go do this like men.”
You couldn’t help but laugh at Birdy. Even in a dress she was taking charge like one of the guys.
You peek out the front door and see the chairs that are now filled with guests. Looking up you couldn’t help but notice the sky wasn’t as bright as it had been before. You shrug the thought off as you see Billy walking towards you. Since your own family lived too far away to make it to the wedding he would be walking you down the isle.
“You look beautiful” he said taking your arm. “Are you ready?”
You nod your head yes and make your way to the edge of the cabin. You watch as Noah and Ami walked down the isle followed by Gabe and Birdy,Matt and Rainy, and finally Bear and Mr. Cupcake.
After days of begging and convincing, you and Bam had finally agreed to let Bear walk the dog down the isle. Bear had gotten so excited he had gone out and bought a special little tuxedo shirt for the dog to wear. Which you now agreed he looked super cute in.
Halfway down the isle Mr. Cupcake who up to this point was being a perfect gentleman, decided to have some fun. He turned to Bear jumping up on him and then grabbed his sleeve shaking and growling.
“Off Mr. Cupcake, down. Not the tuxedo jacket. Off!” Bear called out trying to shake the dog off.
You couldn’t help but laugh. That would teach him you thought to yourself.“Here we go” Billy said squeezing your arm tight.
As you begin walking down the isle you look around at all the familiar faces that had come to share the day with you. You saw the beautiful lights Noah had made from scraps. He had somehow made them look like glowing candles and it was beautiful.
As you look up you see Bam waiting at the end of the isle for you. Your eyes fill with tears and your heart fills like it might burst. He looks so handsome in his tux with his hair down the way you love it.
You finally reach Bam and take his hand letting go of Billy. “You look amazing” Bam whispers. Before you can respond Billy clears his throat “ Uh, so small problem. The pastor got sick and couldn’t make it.”
You stare at him in shock.
“But don’t worry” he jumps in “one of our guests was able to get a signal on their phone so we jumped online and ordained me. I’m gonna marry you.”You look over at Bam who was shaking his head with a small smirk on his face. “OK Da let’s just get this going.” Bam laughed.
The ceremony was going off without a hitch. It was almost time to say your vows and as Billy spoke you couldn’t help but think you could smell smoke. Taking a deeper breath you were sure of it. Just then you heard someone behind you yell out fire. One of Noah’s handmade lights had caught on fire igniting the flowers around it.
Noah immediately jumped into action yelling “ don’t panic, someone grab one of the extinguishers from my tent.”
Gabe took off to get it but before he could return the cloudy sky you noticed earlier opened up and the rain came poring down. You watched the flames die out and your soaked guests running for cover. The only ones left were you, Bam , and his family.
“What should we do?” You asked Bam.
He looked around and then took your hand “let’s keep going Da. All that matters is that I get to marry you. Everyone that matters is right here so let’s do this.”So with the rain falling you said you exchanged rings and said your I do’s. It turned out to be the perfect wedding after all.
