The blackness started to fade and until it was so bright it hurt James to even look. After a few moments the brightness faded a touch and James looked around to find his room in his house in the future, except now everything was white and bright. James's eyes furrowed as he sat down on his bed. Was he dead? Was this death? His eyes landed on his father standing in the corner, he smiled the kind of smile his father always gave him when he had gotten into trouble.
"Hello James. I remember this feeling, Dumbledore was there when Voldemort killed me. Can you imagine my surprise when I'm having lunch with your mother and then all of the sudden I'm here in a very clean version of your room. I realized something by the way James, my memories aren't going to change until you come back. I know you must be trying to save as many people as possible and I'm guessing you saved Sirius and for that I'm grateful but I want you to be careful about what you change. Now, why don't you tell me about what this is about."
"I died, or I think I partially died. It's like how you died when you went to the Forbidden Forest and were killed by Voldemort. I know what you mean Dad it is weird to die. I had bad visions about my family about Lily, Albus and Teddy. I had dreams they were being tortured and killed it was horrible. Then I woke up and saw some Green lights and everything went black and then I was here talking to you."
"Sounds like quiet the experience, well it's like what happened to me. You have the choice to go back or to go on, but please James don't go on, I think your mother might just kill me," his father said with a slight smile.
"I want to go back Dad, I really do."
"Okay, then give me a hug and I'll send you on your way."
"How are you going to do that?"
"I have no idea."
James and his father hugged like they hadn't done in months which they hadn't. The hug only lasted a second before the darkness swallowed James up once more and he woke up on the ground where he had been very sore. There were a lot of people above him and he blinked a few times before his eyes readjusted and he looked up to see a lot of crying people.
"Ow," James muttered and many people gasped in shock. "That hurt."
"James?" James heard Hermione ask in surprise.
"Yes," James answered looking to where the voice had come from, it was Hermione and Ron standing next to her, Hermione had tears streaking down her streaking down her face.
"You were just dead, you were hit with a killing curse and stopped breathing. You were dead," Ron stated ghostly pale.
"Ya, I had a good chat with someone I hadn't seen in a few months. Now I'm here. What did I miss?" James asked getting into a sitting position.
"You- you were dead. And now your not!" Ron explained as he regained some color.
"I know, dying is really tiring. It made me absolutely exhausted. I mean I did die and now I'm not dead it's a lot of work."
James just realized that Harry was no longer next to him and that he didn't know half the people gawking at him. They quickly left and it was just him, Hermione, Neville, Ginny and Luna.
"Where's Harry?" James asked again before anyone could say anything.
"He thinks your dead, he's with Dumbledore over there," Ron answered pointing to a distraught looking Harry and a vaguely sad looking Albus Dumbledore.
"You know, I think someone should go tell him I'm not dead."
"Your right," Hermione said as she walked over to where Harry was. James watched as Hermione talked and Harry's eyes flicked towards James who gave a slight wave and Harry's eyes widened in surprise.
"You know, dying isn't exactly my favorite pass time. I think I much prefer Quidditch or wizards chess. Much less... painful."
"How did you come back! You were dead we watched you being hit by a killing curse!" Neville explained still shocked.
"Yeah, it wasn't that fun. Oh ya I promised you lot an explanation however it's a long story and I only really want to have to explain it once. It's very bright when you die, of course I wasn't their for long but you don't exactly forget something like that do you."
"How are you so calm about this, your even cracking jokes," Ron asked.
"Humor is a way of dealing with stress, I use that method frequently. It makes me have a false sort of calm, you know the intimidation factor."
As James finished talking Harry and Dumbledore walked over to James who was still sitting on the floor.
"I don't understand. You were dead, and now your not dead?" Harry asked weakly.
"Ya, I died and it's not very fun if you ask me. Then I came back to life, I don't really know how to explain, it has something to do with the prophecy or something. I'm not really sure... it was probably just a fluke."
"I know why Mister 'Patterson' came back to life and I'm afraid that the answer is rather simple, however I'm afraid it is something that I cannot tell anyone. Not even you Mister Patterson that is the truth," Dumbledore told them and James looked taken aback. He had realized something, the only reason his father had come back was because he was the ruler of the Elder wand and it had just killed the Horcrux part but James wasn't a Horcrux, or was he?
