[Flash Back]
Her ears were pounding, her throat was raw, and eyes were burning. Gravity fought against the girl as she tried to stand in the metal cage, flying upwards at an inconceivable speed toward a dark nothingness. She screamed and cried for help, but there was nothing. No one.
The cage slammed to a stop, sending her body crashing down into the floor. Everything was silent for a moment before the girl began to hear voices, faint and frantic. From above, a fissure appeared which blinding light flowed through. When her eyes adjusted, all she saw was a few dozen bodies silhouetted, all of them tense.
A tall, burly boy with short hair jumped down in front of her, looking down with curious eyes.
"It's a girl!" He exclaimed, shifting awkwardly.
"No shit, Gally!" Another boy hollered, the rest laughing.
The boy seemingly named Gally turned back to the girl, holding out a hand. "Welcome to the Glade, Greenie."
Eyeing the rough hand suspiciously, the girl refused to take it. She backed up slowly until she hit a mound of wooden boxes. A small smirk rose on her face, earning a questioning glare from the boy.
In just a few seconds, she'd climbed over the boxes and was out of the hole in the ground. Boys parted like the sea in her presence, allowing her to run straight through the crowd. For a moment, she stopped and stared at her surroundings. Huge, ominous grey stone walls surrounded her. But, to the right, one of those walls had a break in it. She sprinted straight for it, not looking back.
"Woah—HEY! STOP HER!" One of the boys screamed. Just based upon his voice, the girl knew it was Gally again. Then the sound of thundering feet followed, boys shouting and hollering all sorts of different things. But, she was faster. Fear was a powerful agent.
Coming closer and closer to the break in the walls, the girl couldn't see where the corridor led. It was just a dark, grim looking stone hell hole she didn't really want to enter.
Despite her heart telling her not to go, she was going anyways. It was better than staying here, unaware of what was going on, surrounded by fifty strangers.
"YOU'D BETTER STOP, SHUCKFACE!" A new voice screamed. This time, much louder, and therefore, much closer. The girl looked back just in time to see her perpetrator lunge forwards, sending her body straight into the ground. She felt her skull collide with the hard ground and the wind be knocked from her lungs, then everything went dark.
"Nice job, you've nearly killed her, Minho!" A blonde boy cried in frustration as he pushed Minho off of the new arrival. "This is why they haven't sent us any bloody girls!"
"You told me to stop her. I did that, Newt." Minho rolled his eyes, knowing she'd be fine. Maybe a little bruised, but she was still breathing. Plus, if she was going to be a Glader, this seemed like an adequate welcome.
Clint and Jeff took the girls limp frame to the Medjack hut and boarded off the doors to stop anyone from entering.
Little did they know, they should have boarded the doors from the outside. In under a few hours, the greenie had woken up. Awoken with twice as much fear, anger, and strength. She tore her way straight through the doors and stormed outside, peering around the Glade, obviously looking for an escape.
Most of the Gladers sat at the picnic tables enjoying their dinners. Since it was bonfire night, all of the runners had returned from their routes early to spend a little extra time resting. It wasn't long before commotion arose and a boy tried to approach the girl. He made it about three feet away from her before a first careened into his face, sending him doubling over in pain. Any boy who saw the confrontation gasped, mouths falling agape, some laughing in disbelief. The greenie just seemed to brush it off before quickening her pace towards the doors again. There was no doubt she had her mind set on what she wanted.
