{Derek Shepard~ three empty words pt. 2}

For the past couple of days you've stayed at small little hotel that didn't really have much but it had enough for just you to stay in. You would wake up and go to work, the distance on the ferry boat seemed a lot longer than it did when you were still with Derek.

Derek won't even look you in the eye and when the two of you are in the same room he does his best to leave the room as quickly as possible.

Derek even looks rougher than usual. His eyes that were once bright, vibrant, and full of life, now appeared dull and lifeless. His clothes that he usually worn so neat and tidy, now looked crumpled and messy.

You've made several attempts to talk to him but he won't have it. He walks away with out murmuring a single word. He looks dead but when he's standing in front of you a little life seems to come back but only for a second. Before you know it a flash of hatred comes across his face before the same dead person relapses.

"I don't get I thought this would make him happy now he can be with Meredith or whoever he wants. I'm not holding him back anymore. It's pretty clear that we weren't the model for couples anymore so I don't get why he's so pissy." Arizona sits in front of you taking in every word.

"I don't think Derek ever fell out of love for you. I think he's acting like this because defeat isn't something Derek handles very well. He's doing this because despite the fact that it doesn't seem like he's still in love with you, there's no one he'd rather be with." Your smile falters slightly and your hands shake a little.

"Arizona can you keep a secret?" She looks at you worried but nods her head.

You reach into bag that was seated next to you and pull out a positive pregnancy test and hand it to Arizona.

"I took ten and all turned out positive." Arizona looks shocked but it turns into excitement.

"When did you find out?"

"Last night."

"And that's why you want to talk to Derek so bad?"

"Yah I'm afraid to tell him but he deserves to know." You shrug and lay back in the chair. You feel a slight wave of nausea hit you but you let it pass and you get up to get ready to check on your post ops. You walk in and see Derek talking to Meredith in what appears to be a flirtatious matter. You look at them from a far and see the smile that had become foreign to you. You feel your heart shatter but when you see Meredith lean up and kiss him, that may have very well of killed you. You turn the other way and let a few tears fall but you wipe them away just as quickly as they fall.

After checking on all the patients and performing a few successful surgeries you prepare to go back to your hotel room. You hear the door open and you jump slightly at the noise. You turn and see Derek standing in the doorway. He looks at you but says nothing. He goes to his locker and gets all of his things together quietly. Not a word is spoken between the two of you.

"I guess we are just gonna skip the part if the letter that said 'I hope we can still be friends'."

"I've got too much going on to have time for friends."

"Oh you mean like flirting with Meredith?" You don't know why you said it, it just sorta happened. You silently freak out and grab the rest of your things and run to the elevator.

You get into the elevator and before you have a chance to pick a floor number Derek is in there with you.

"I wasn't flirting with Meredith!" You watch as the floor number gets lower and lower but then it stops. Derek is standing by the panel and the emergency stop button is pulled.

"Yah, okay so the kiss that was for the hell of it really reassuring." You try to reach the panel but Derek is standing over it guarding it, the small little noise signaling it's still not letting the elevator move.

"First of all she kissed me. Second of all you broke up with me!" Tears were welling up in your eyes.

"Way to take some responsibility. We had to do something Derek. We were living too monotoned. Nothing ever changed, except that we started saying less to each other. We never said I love you anymore. We always fought about the stupidest little thing. I was so tired Derek. I thought I was helping us!" He looks at you and starts shaking his head.

"I loved our relationship because we didn't have to say that much to each other but we said enough to understand one another. I loved our relationship because I didn't think I had to say I love you every minute of the day, that way when I did say it, it meant something. I loved our little petty arguments because we never let them bother us to the point we could no longer be in the same room." He looked at you and your tear stained face and hit the button to let the elevator go back to its normal duties.

You stand there letting the tears fall not really knowing how to react. You reach into your purse and pull the test out you turn towards Derek and he has a ring in his hand.

"(Y/n) I'm not asking you to marry me but I want to give you this promise ring because I promise you that one day I will marry you. I planned on giving it to you the day I came home and found the letter but I'm crazy about you. I love you and I know you still love me." You smile and hand him the test.

"You may want to see this before you make that call." He examines the test closely before smiling ear to ear.

"We are gonna be parents?"

"We are gonna be parents." You smile and he picks you up and hugs you. Once he places you down you let him put the promise ring on your finger and laugh as you see he has a few tears on his face while still looking at the test.

"Derek not to ruin the moment but the elevator has been stopped on this floor for a few minutes now and we've just been standing here." He laughed and kisses you before the two of you exit the elevator.
