¿Kathrine Wallace?
Pinkerton Agent, V.P.
As soon as we returned I walked into Benny's office and smiled. He looked up and laughed. "So you've changed your name again...." He joked and I rolled my eyes and then said, "I put a tracking device on 'Mathias', we should be able to track his movements as well. I only have three more people on the list!" I smiled and showed him the book, all but three names were left, all the others had lines drawn through them.
"Good job Katie- err I mean Darcy..." He smiled and winked at me. I walked off towards the bathroom and shot Alex a warning glare as he opened his mouth to ask where I was going. He turned around and walked into the living room.

I came out and smiled at Alex. My hair was back to its natural color and wild like the sea, no longer flat as the sand. I was wearing a thin long sleeve t-shirt that was a light turquoise and light bluish gray shorts with rips in them. I was glad to be rid of those combat boots, after a whole day they get uncomfortable, and was now barefoot.
"Where have you been? And what happened to Darcy?" Alex asked and I shrugged, grabbing an apple and saw he had already eaten a sub from the deli a few miles away.
"How'd it go?" I asked him as I sat on the couch next to him. He shrugged and sighed, "Well...she shot some guy in the neck after making out with him, you know the usual...did you do something to your hair?" He asked reaching out to touch my bangs.
I looked up at his fingers and grabbed his wrist, stopping him from touching my wet bangs. "She did?" I asked, our eyes meeting uncomfortably and I slowly let go of his wrist. "Ya...it was kinda...weird." He laughed softly and I laughed too, until we were sitting in a pool of awkward silence, occasionally filled with the sound of me biting into my apple.
"We should get packing.." I finally spoke and he looked confused. "What? Why?" He asked and I only looked at him. "Kate, if we're gonna be partners we have to be able to trust each other. I know you're used to riding solo but-"
"But what?" I asked setting my apple down on the table. "You're not my babysitter, I'm a big girl and I say we leave tonight."
"And why should I listen to you? We're equals, we're partners! If anyone I should be in charge seeing as I'm a cop and you can't even say, 'Pinkerton Agent, I have jurisdiction' without revealing you're crazy secret agency!" He exclaimed angrily and stood up.
"Well maybe we shouldn't be partners! Then no one will hold me back anymore!" I shouted standing up to glare at him and said, "Then Mr. Big Shot Detective can have women hanging on either side of him and can laze around here focusing on dancers and other women and ignore the danger surrounding him and what's practically standing right in front of him!"
We both took a step forward, our noses almost touching, but I could tell we both could care less.
"Ya, finally something we agree on! But I guess you just want to ignore those who love you and are standing right beside you, ready to help! You're self centered, you know that right? You just want to focus on self-preservation don't you?" He glared at me, furious.
"Fine! Stay!" I spat and flung the picture I had found at Alex and stormed off. The picture had two little girls laughing in the living room as a Harry Potter movie played, a man and woman sitting on the couch smiling. The picture had been taken from the beach with to red X's on everyone's face except Kate's. On the back it said, "Kate, Kate, Kate. Didn't we tell you to lay off? If you don't stop soon everyone with those X's will be gone for good. Give up now while you still got the chance Kate. XXX."
