Welcome to brittled mind! I am happy that you've clicked on this story, but first want to make sure you're okay to read it!
General Warning: This story will go into detail about many triggering topics for eating disorders, specifically anorexia nervosa. It will talk explicitly about intrusive thoughts, self deprecation, weight, body mass index, calories, and comparison. There is a lot of detail about anxiety, depression, and many other mental illnesses. There is discussion of race, gender, and family. Strong language is frequently used.
The reason for all these triggers is to provide a more realistic example of the complexity and dangers of an eating disorder.
Diversity: The story features a biracial boy with mental illness and the physical, familial, and other complications that is a result. There is representation of different races, genders, sexualities, appearances, and diagnoses, for many different reasons. In my experience diversity of people I have been in treatment with is very prevalent, yet rarely if ever represented in discussion and media. Typically there is a token black character with BED or a prized gay bulimic, but rarely is there ever accurate diversity.
If you are currently in treatment, relapsing, or have an eating disorder it is most likely going to trigger you or be upsetting. If you are reading this with the intention of being triggered, I cannot stop you but suggest you click the video instead.
ALSO: If you have PTSD/trauma from you or a loved one experiencing psychiatric hospitalization, ng t*bing, medical emergency or anything related this could be harmful. (I have certain triggers related so I tried not to trigger myself writing but felt it important to include in a warning)
Weight disclaimer: Len, the main character, will at many points in the story be at an extremely and severely low body weight. Research was done to be sure that similar BMIs have been recorded, but none of these are safe or a possible set point. Not everyone with anorexia will be underweight, but for both views and relatable dysmorphia experiences I have included it. If you find you may use it as comparison or a "goal", do not proceed.
A recognition of privilege and ignorance: I am a nonbinary white teenager with anorexia. If anything I say about the experience of a male, POC, other diagnosis, or otherwise different character is incorrect, offensive, or ignorant, please politely contact me and correct me. I want to create a diverse story but correctly and kindly.
Thank you and stay safe!
