"Are you prepared to be showered in my mother's affection?" Josh asks before we step onto the porch of his parents home. There's an additional 4 cars aligned on the street, indicating that the entire family is probably here.

"Fingers crossed she'll be more focused on you, this time around."

I've met his family. Multiple times. I even cut BOTH of his sisters' hair regularly. But we've only all met together once since we've been a couple, and his mother had a new-found adoration for me.

He knocks twice on the door before letting us in.

"Mom?" He calls out, and I can already hear her singing her way to the door.

"Oooooh, well if it isn't my favorite son-" she stops and looks behind her, probably looking out for Jordan (Josh's brother). "And my favorite future daughter-in-law!" Yep. She just said that.

She squeezes me first, nearly sucking all the air out of me, before moving to Josh.

Laura Dun is a people-pleaser. 100%. So this is normal.

Josh? 100000% a mama's boy. Hands. Down. Complete opposite of myself.

---------------------x---------------------

We're all sitting at the table, casual conversation is going around, nothing too serious.

Until Laura decides to make a toast, to her son's success. She raises the glass of wine (the same wine from MY house) and everyone, besides myself and Josh's youngest sister, Abby, follow.

I thought I could get away with not taking wine and raising a glass of water instead, but Jordan is the first one to notice.

"Not drinking tonight, Liles?"

Shit.

Now everyone has their attention on that damn water glass. Including Josh.

"Uh, no. I have an early appointment tomorrow. None for me."

"Sweetie, one glass isn't gonna hurt." Josh's mom points out.

This isn't gonna work.

"Here, let me go grab you a glass."

"Mom, please." Josh interrupts, sending his mother back to her chair in defense. He shoots me a confused look.

The man knows me too well. He knows that I never turn down some cheap Walmart wine. Because it's GOOD, okay? Also probably how I got knocked up in the first place.

He also knows damn well I'm off work tomorrow.

---------------------x---------------------

Everyone ignores the fact that I haven't touched the glass that Jordan so graciously poured for me anyway, but the conversation takes a turn.

We were talking about tour, visiting other countries, Tyler and Jenna, and it suddenly turned to, "So, when are you planning on getting married and starting a family?"

I know we were on the topic of Tyler and Jenna, who are married. I also know that Josh is the oldest of four kids, nearing 30 every year, and I'm probably the first female he's ever brought into his parent's home. They've met Debby. But not like this.

"Uh, not any time soo-"

"Joshua, please. You're 27 years old. You've finally found the right one, and..."

"Honey, he just got home from tour and he's already got to go back in a couple days. Give the kid a break, and stop grilling them at the dinner table." Josh's dad, Bill, chimes in. Thankfully.

"Well," Jordan sets down his fork, looking me dead in the eyes. "Do you live together?" WHY ARE WE BEING ATTACKED BY HIS MOM AND BROTHER RIGHT NOW?

"I still have my own place." Not entirely a lie, but he lives at my place when he's in the area.

"Huh," his brother lets out, "Didn't answer the question, but okay."

---------------------x---------------------

The two of us evaded any further questions, but I could tell Josh was very frustrated.

His mom just wants the best for him, I get that. He gets that. But sometimes, she gets a little too personal and that freaks him out. It didn't help that Jordan was practically egging her on.

We're halfway back to my place, and neither of us has said a word since we left.

"So..." Josh breaks the silence, "You gonna tell me why you didn't even touch the bottle of wine that you brought over?"

I don't say anything, but he continues after a couple seconds.

"You've also been avoiding looking at me since I came home," His eyes stay on the road, "And you barely touched your food tonight. You on a cleanse or something? Making you irritable, or what?"

I just feel a tear falling down my cheek and I know it's over.

"Josh..."

He looks at me, finally, and realizes that I'm crying. He immediately pulls over and pulls me into a hug.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make your cry...I'm just stressed from my parents and-"

"Josh."

"What is it?"

I pull away and look out the window. I can't look at him right now, I don't know why.

"Delilah, please tell me."

He has this puppy look on his face.

"I'm pregnant."
