Still Josh's P.O.V
Delilah's still passed out next to me. She looks so comfortable, I can't bring myself to move. A little while after I start to drift off myself, I hear someone unlocking the front door and opening it.
Ben walks in with his daughter in one arm and son in the other. He looks at me, confused. I'm assuming that I probably have the exact same look on my face.
"Uh..." Then he notices the bottle of wine and his sleeping sister, still clutching my arm. "Ya know, I can just see if Jenna can bab-"
I pry Delilah off my arm, trying not to wake her up and reach for the sleeping toddler.
"She mentioned she was supposed to babysit tonight. I totally forgot."
Ben turns around, planning on leaving. "Yeah, it's fine though. Jenna already said she could if the plans changed."
"Ben." He turns back around to face me, reaching my arms out. "Give me the baby."
"I can't just-"
"It's fine. I've babysat younger kids before and Jenna's is an extra 25 minutes away. Go have fun for once."
I manage to convince him to let me watch the kids for the night. I don't think Delilah intended on drinking so much, because she did tell me that Ben and Mia were going out later and she would have the kids overnight.
Just as Ben was about to leave, he turns back to me again. "Why were you here, anyway?"
"Just hanging out. She re-did my hair."
"That's it? Because that's not what it looked like when I walked in."
"That's it."
"Uh huh. Well, they both sleep pretty sound through the night. Elias is a big pain in the ass in the morning though. Let Lilah handle that. He's always an angel for her. Call me if anything comes up."
He leaves, and I start to figure out HOW I'm going to pull this off.
Cecilia, Ben's older daughter, is sound asleep on Delilah's other couch. Ben brought her pillow and blanket from home.
I'm still holding Elias, the younger one who's still asleep...until I reach down for the bag that Ben left and he starts to cry. Okay, I'm not as good at this as I thought.
Delilah shuffles a little bit, her eyebrows furrowing. I'm frozen in place.
Suddenly, her eyes SHOOT open.
"I WAS SUPPOSED TO BABYSIT TONIGHT!" She yells, waking up Cecilia.
"Shhhh!" The little girl has a VERY annoyed look on her face, along with her pointer finger up to her lips.
Delilah looks up at me, and I can see the panic all over her.
She jumps up and reaches for the crying toddler.
"Oh my god. I'm so sorry. I forgot all about it." She bounces the child in her arms. "Shhh, it's okay. Let's go get your bed made, okay?" He immediately stops crying.
I feel something punch me in the gut. Not literally, but I feel something.
Then Delilah looks at me. Those blue-green eyes look right at me and I can almost feel myself melt down to a puddle in my shoes.
I think I'm in love. Like, real love this time.
"Josh, can you pull the hide-a-bed out from the couch and set it up for Cecilia? I'm going to put Elias down in my room...I won't force you to stay the night..."
Why is it just now hitting me?
---------------------x---------------------
I think I will end up staying the night. How could I not? My brain literally just smacked me right in the face, telling me that she is the one.
I've only felt like this ONCE before. And it wasn't with Debby.
The night Delilah and I first (and the only time) . I felt something hit me, like it just did, when she was singing all the words to Brass Monkey by the Beastie Boys in my bedroom of Tyler and I's first apartment.
Am I feeling it now because she could've been the mother of my child? Seeing her in maternal instinct?
No. That's too "domestic". I've loved this girl since we first met. I just didn't realize it until now.
"Hey, I finally got Eli down. You coming to bed with me, or what?" My head turns, instantly, in her direction. Did she just ask me to share a bed with her? Try to play it cool, Josh.
"Uh...yeah. Let me just clean up the bathroom. It's still a big, red mess."
She probably doesn't think anything of it. We've shared a bed on a few occasions, but most commonly while on vacation with Tyler and Jenna. There were only two beds in our hotel room and Jenna wanted to share with Tyler. It wasn't weird or anything.
But this time? Might be a little weird.
